Responsibilities

 

Determines the Serviceability of Vehicle Systems:

  • Determines the overall condition of the vehicle, the causes of any malfunctions and the need for repair.
  • Analyzes malfunctions by visual and auditory examination, operation and the use of the appropriate test equipment.
  • Isolates the causes of vehicle malfunctions by the systematic analysis of the vehicle.
  • Inspects, tests, troubleshoots and analyzes the vehicle engine mechanical systems; crankcase ventilating systems; exhaust emission and anti-pollution systems; lubricating, cooling, air conditioning and exhaust systems; engine electrical systems; engine fuel-air system; power train; brakes; steering and suspension systems.

Removes, Replaces, Repairs, Adjusts and Overhauls Vehicle Systems:

  • Removes and replaces with new or rebuilt units, repairs, adjusts or overhauls components of the engines’ mechanical, electrical, air conditioning, fuel-air, anti-pollution, emission control systems, power train, brakes, steering and suspension systems.
  • Removes and disassembles engine mechanical components such as: pistons, rings, flywheel, crankshaft, camshaft, valves, valve mechanisms, sleeves, gaskets, seals, bearings and gears.
  • Removes and disassembles electrical components such as: batteries, solenoids, cranking motors, generators, alternators, regulators, belts, distributors, magnetos, resistors, plugs connections and wiring.
  • Removes and disassembles fuel-air components such as: control valves, pumps, blowers, injectors, governors, sending units, tanks, instruments, carburetors and filters.
  • Removes and disassembles power train components such as: brakes, steering, suspension, clutch assemblies, transmissions, torque converters, power take offs, winches, transfer case, driving axles, brake lines, brake shoes, brake linings, brake cylinders, drums, ball joints, kingpins, tie rods, steering gears, wheel alignment, frames, wheels, tyres, springs and shock absorbers.
  • Repairs units by replacing worn or damaged parts with new or reconditioned items. This also may include grinding, re-bushing, reaming, re-facing, honing, aligning, measuring and installation of the parts.
  • Reassembles, replaces and adjusts repaired units and tests for correct operation.

Performs Preventative and Special Maintenance:

  • Establishes, maintains and uses technical, administrative and supply publications; vehicle maintenance data and man-hour accounting forms and reports.
  • Performs specialized maintenance on vehicles requiring corrosion control, winterization, storage or shipment.
  • Services and repairs vehicle safety accessories such as seat belts, mirrors, windshield wiper motors, wiper arms and blades, lights, indicators and warning devices.
  • Practices workshop safety and security procedures within a vehicle maintenance organization.
  • Inspects, maintains and repairs anti-pollution, emission control and vehicle air conditioning systems.

Supervises Vehicle Maintenance Personnel:

  • Assigns specific tasks when acting as a supervisor.
  • Observes work performed; adhering to instructions and prescribed procedures.
  • Instructs personnel in repair and servicing duties.
  • Makes decisions on maintenance required and the serviceability of repaired equipment.

 

 

Job Requirements:

 

Necessary Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Must have a good level of English Language comprehension, both written and oral
  • Will have a minimum of 3 years practical experience of working on a full range of Speacialist Vehicles, either military or civilian environment.
  • Must be a quality minded, mature, individual that adopts a positive and proactive approach to all aspects in the Specialist vehicle field.
  • Must possess a current driving license.
