Senior Systems Engineer – Avionics System

JOB PURPOSE 

BAE Systems is the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor under the Government-to-Government arrangements that are in place to provide equipment, support and training to Saudi Arabia.  We provide maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft and train RSAF and Royal Saudi Naval Force personnel safely in a training environment in how to use their aircraft, equipment and weapons.

As a Senior Systems – Avionics, the Job Holder is responsible to the Engineering Trials and Integration Manager for providing functional assistance and support to the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) Engineering Authority (EA) Section Manager in the development and exploitation of the RSAF EA capability.

The jobholder will be in constant daily contact with the RSAF officers within the Directorate of Aeronautical Engineering (DoAE) providing support for Avionic Systems integration and engineering issues on Typhoon, Tornado and Hawk aircraft. The jobholder should be flexible, adaptable and be able to support all bases in Kingdom, RSAF HQ and any location within or out of the Kingdom as requested/directed by the BAE Systems line manager or RSAF Director of Aeronautical Engineering or his nominated section manager (in consultation with the BAE Systems line manager).

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Have and maintain a professional awareness of BAE Systems Saudi Arabia Engineering Regulatory Frameworks and best practice and share this with the RSAF Directorate of Aeronautical Engineering.

  • Have and maintain a professional awareness of the UK (MoD) Regulatory Frameworks and practice and share this with the RSAF DoAE.

  • Provide support to the RSAF EA in developing an indigenous capability for undertaking systems engineering, specifically in Avionic changes and integration.

  • Provide support and assistance in the definition, planning and review of the qualification and certification activities to be undertaken by the RSAF EA in support og RSAF aircraft clearance and service modifications (limited to UK sourced platforms).

  • Provide guidance and assistance to the RSAF EA in the development of Hazard analysis and Safety Cases prior to undertaking any activity.

  • Assist the RSAF EA with the identification and development of supporting evidence required to achieve the required levels of confidence for aircraft clearances and/or system changes.

  • Assist the RSAF EA with system safety related incidents/accidents investigations and assist with the evaluation and provide recommendations on defect and incident reports for BAE Systems platforms.

  • Maintain working relationships with other RSAF Directorates, BAE Systems Saudi Arabia deployed engineering resource at RSAF bases, platform project teams, MODSAP and functional/networking links to BAE Systems Business Units.

  • Support and assist the RSAF in the generation of system integration plans and procedures for changes to existing systems to improve safety, reliability, maintainability or performance.

  • Provide support and assistance in reviewing industry trials/integration plans for suitability and acceptance prior to providing recommendation to the RSAF DoEA engineering signatory.

  • Assist in the development of system trials, integration and testing procedures and documentation to verify performance to specification requirements.

  • Assist in the acceptance testing of aircraft general systems and equipment modifications/upgrades.

RECRUITMENT SPECIFICATION

Essential

  • Educated to degree level in either Aeronautical Engineering, Electronics.

  • Proven extensive aircraft avionic experience within an aircraft engineering organisation.

  • A professional knowledge of aircraft systems certification requirements and regulations.

  • Proven experience in trials and integration activities, ideally gained in a military environment.

  • Proven experience in liaison with aircraft and equipment Engineering and Design Authorities/Organisations.

  • Knowledge of Aircraft Drawing sets.

  • Experience with aircraft and support equipment programmes.

  • Experience in a number of the following areas:

    • Aviation quality systems, airworthiness, aircraft safety management, design engineering, manufacturing, project/programme management.

  • An awareness of aircraft engines and ancillary equipment and their relationship to other aircraft systems.

  • Experience in change management.

  • The ability to communicate at all organisational levels; applying varied methodologies in an appropriate and clear manner and establishing dependable relationships with all stakeholders.

  • Strong technical and interpersonal skills.

  • Proven communication and team working skills.

  • Ability to promote a culture of continuous development and improvement.

  • Ability to facilitate, mediate and influence in diverse military and civilian cultures.

  • A working knowledge of BAE Systems aircraft (Typhoon/Tornado/Hawk) platforms; systems (Avionics).

 

Desirable

  • A working knowledge of BAE Systems supplied AGE (Typhoon/Tornado/Hawk) systems.

  • Proven experience working within an Engineering Authority.

  • Knowledge of engineering drawing software (AUTOCAD, CATIA etc.)
