Job Description:
You will translate high-level system concepts into detailed hardware designs, ensuring they are practical, clearly defined, and ready for implementation. You’ll contribute hardware expertise to bids and feasibility studies, helping shape technical solutions and ensure proposed designs are robust, cost-effective, and aligned with project requirements.
In addition, you will oversee hardware support activities, including managing spares for Simulation & Training programmes and maintaining reference equipment, while forecasting demand and identifying any concerning trends. You will also work closely with systems and software teams to resolve hardware issues during development, and develop clear installation, modification, and commissioning procedures to ensure new hardware is deployed safely and effectively.
Core Duties:
- Produce hardware design including supporting bid and estimating activities
- Build, installation and commissioning of COTS hardware systems
- Conduct hardware studies to support future business opportunities
- Maintenance of hardware at Broad Oak
- Management of In-Service spares and repairs
- Provide day-to-day mentoring and technical oversight of Hardware Support Engineer
Essential Skills:
- You will have a breadth of knowledge and experience of hardware Systems Development Lifecycle on complex systems
- You will have the ability to understand requirements to derive hardware requirements and to create hardware solutions to meet the requirements
- You will have the ability to create technical specifications in response to requirements
- You will have the ability to install and maintain hardware and networks, at a number of sites across the UK
- You will have knowledge and experience of using COTS hardware. This includes cabinets, cabinet design, wiring schedules and power distribution
The Simulation & Training Hardware Team:
The Simulation & Training Hardware Team is responsible for the design, installation and commissioning of training system Hardware located in-house and at customer sites across the UK. They provide ongoing through-life support to these systems and carry out regular Hardware upgrades to ensure they keep running smoothly. The team is also responsible for the maintenance and upgrades of the in-house reference equipment based at Broad Oak, Portsmouth.
