JOB PURPOSE 

BAE Systems is the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor under the Government-to-Government arrangements that are in place to provide equipment, support and training to Saudi Arabia.  We provide maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft and train RSAF and Royal Saudi Naval Force personnel safely in a training environment in how to use their aircraft, equipment and weapons.

The Tornado Avionics Specialist is responsible to the Director of Aircraft Maintenance, through the Tornado and Training Aircraft Manager to provide impartial maintenance and engineering advice on all matters pertaining to Tornado avionics systems and equipment. They are also responsible for co-ordinating and staffing Tornado avionics maintenance and engineering issues within the Directorate. They will provide a primary point of contact in KSA for HQRSAF, RSAF Bases, MODSAP and BAE Systems in respect of Tornado avionics programmes, proposals and in-service support issues.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Investigate, propose and co-ordinate solutions to overcome airworthiness or ground safety problems highlighted by Base Safety reports, faxes or signals. Perform analysis of avionics systems.

  • Review, evaluate and progress technical submissions, Costed Proposals and Statements of Work on all Tornado avionics systems.

  • Draft and co-ordinate Directorate responses to Prime Contractor originated ECP’s and TCTO’s.

  • Draft, review and co-ordinate RSAF generated TCTO’s relevant to Tornado avionics systems. Prepare Statement of Requirements for the design and performance of avionics systems and equipment.

  • Participate in research, development and implementation of programs to improve safety, reliability and maintainability of avionics systems, subsystems and components.

  • Monitor test programs associated with avionics systems and equipment.

  • Evaluate test data to identify problems and/or to verify performance.

  • Prepare RSAF staff correspondence (reports, letters, presentations etc.) to applicable organisations, internal or external to the RSAF, on Tornado avionics systems issues.

  • Accompany and support RSAF officers at briefings and meetings.

  • Participate in avionics system requirement reviews, preliminary and critical design reviews, integration readiness reviews and system acceptance reviews.

  • Research problems discovered in service and developing solutions.

  • Work with other maintenance and engineering disciplines and management team to collectively meet requirements.

  • Coordinate with project work teams to ensure adherence to policies, achievement of quality targets and delivery on schedule milestones.

  • Review and recommend RSAF authorisations of maintenance and engineering modifications. Progress approval of improvement initiatives through external design organisations and technical authorities.

  • Perform studies and participate in research, development and implementation of programs to improve safety, reliability and maintainability.

  • Support RSAF officers at meetings and participate in design and programme management reviews.

 

RECRUITMENT SPECIFICATION

Essential

  • Qualified to Degree level or equivalent (HND/HNC) in Electronics Engineering or related field.

  • Extensive experience in the field of systems engineering, maintenance and management of civil and/or military aircraft and equipment.

  • A good all-round awareness and knowledge of Tornado aircraft and avionics systems.

  • Detailed knowledge of maintenance management, statistical, analytical and presentation techniques.

  • Fully conversant with the concepts of maintainability, reliability, system diagnosis and failure modes, design procedure and industrial processes.

  • Experience and knowledge of RSAF practices and procedures gained through involvement, preferably at Base Level, within SBDCP Programmes.

Desirable

  • Master’s Degree or higher and Chartered Engineer status.
