Job Title: Specialist Development Software Engineer

Location: Warton, 3 days per week on site

Salary: £59,491+ (DOE)

Job Description:

In this role, you will be responsible for developing, testing, debugging and maintaining a suite of software applications that support our engineering projects and processes. You will work closely with senior software engineers, project managers and technical experts to deliver high quality software solutions that meet their needs and expectations.

Core duties:

  • Collaborating with expert end users to proactively solve issues with complex bespoke engineering software
  • Implementing fixes in compiled languages on Linux and Windows, maintaining the build-chain and managing releases
  • Writing clean, efficient and well-documented code and participating in code reviews
  • Responsive and empathetic communications with a wide range of stakeholders ensuring frequent progress updates
  • Maintaining bespoke legacy software across platform upgrades and library obsolescence

Essential Skills:

  • A degree in a STEM subject with mathematical knowledge
  • Extensive experience with compiled and linked languages (e.g. C, Fortran) on Linux, including supporting toolsets such as make and git
  • Knowledge of software engineering principles, methodologies and best practices
  • Experience identifying, troubleshooting and resolving technical issues within software delivery environments

The Engineering Systems Competency Centre (ESCC) Technical Computing team:

As part of the Engineering Systems Competency Centre (ESCC) Technical Computing team, you will work closely with our experienced team of developers and engineers to maintain and develop high-quality engineering software applications. The key focus of this role is 3rd line support of C and Fortran applications including testing, debugging, developing enhancements, documentation and release.
