What you’ll be doing:
- Apply your subject matter expertise and domain experience to support the Engineering Manager and Sub-System Technical Lead in delivering underwater sensing systems and products to the submarine build programme
- Work collectively in a team, developing customer requirements in combat systems
- Ensure design proving evidence is comprehensive, captured within the requirements management tools and has been endorsed by the appropriate level of authority
- Understand the contractual and performance requirements for underwater sensing systems and support the definition and associated acceptance criteria through design, build, integration, installation, and commissioning activities
- Review relevant supplier documentation and ensure it is captured and recorded appropriately
- Work with the sonar engineering team to improve own levels of domain knowledge and subject matter expertise
Your skills and experiences:
- Degree level qualification (or equivalent experience) in relevant STEM subject (Engineering/ Physics/ Maths/ Science)
- A basic level of knowledge of sonar systems in the defence, maritime or closely linked industry and the correct recognition of the context of their work within the overall product
- Knowledge of the engineering lifecycle
- Knowledge or at least recognition of relevant engineering standards, including safety and environmental regulations

The SSNA Combat Systems team:
As a Senior Systems Engineer you will join a growing team of about 50 engineers and will work collaboratively since the early stage of a major development programme. This will provide you with the opportunity to influence the progress of different projects within the SSNA Combat System programme and to develop your career within BAE Systems. We will consider part-time wording / job share arrangements for this role. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
