Job Title: Senior Engineer – Product Safety (Hazard Log)
Location: Filton or Scotstoun – Hybrid
As a Senior Engineer (the hazard log controller) working as part of the Product Safety Discipline, within the wider Programme Product Safety team, you will be responsible for maintaining the SMARTer hazard log and for developing and maintaining the associated eCassandra hazard log for delivery to the MOD.
You will work with the safety team, the TA teams and MOD stakeholders to ensure that the eCassandra log is accurate, comprehensive and remains aligned with SMARTer log updates.
Your overarching goal is to ensure that hazards are either eliminated, or that associated risk is managed so far as is reasonably practicable. This role supports this goal by ensuring that all hazards are correctly documented.
Core duties:
- You will maintain the SMARTer Hazard Log
- You will develop and maintain the eCassandra hazard log, as derived from the SMARTer Hazard Log
- You will verify the quality of submissions to the Hazard Log
- You will convert data from SMARTer to eCassandra format.

You will work with the Safety Team, the MOD, the TA teams and embedded Safety Engineers to ensure the maturity of both hazard logs
Essential Skills:
- You will have good skills with spreadsheet and database office applications
- You will understand database concepts
- You will have familiarity with data manipulation
- You will have Microsoft Office skills, in particular Excel
The Safety Team:
This team plays a vital role in identifying hazards and ensuring risks are eliminated or reduced to a level that is as low as reasonably practicable. Through collaboration across engineering disciplines, the team helps protect those who operate our products while safeguarding the organisation’s reputation for delivering safe, reliable solutions
Your role will be ensuring that the pertinent “design” safety argument gets accurately translated into the “In service” hazard log.
