NST Senior Combat Instructor

JOB PURPOSE 

BAE Systems is the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor under the Government-to-Government arrangements that are in place to provide equipment, support and training to Saudi Arabia.  We provide maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft and train RSAF and Royal Saudi Naval Force personnel safely in a training environment in how to use their aircraft, equipment and weapons.

The post holder will be responsible for leading a team of Naval Specialty Training Instructors (NSTI) in the Combat field at the Technical Institute for Naval Studies (TINS). This includes classroom delivery, placement and progress testing / marking, materials selection, preparation and development, syllabus development, implementation of courses and record keeping.

The post holder and all direct reports are expected to teach the core skills, knowledge and attitude of relevant elements of the Combat syllabus. The post holder will co-ordinate with the Naval Specialty Training Manager (NSTM) via the NST Chief Instructor (NSTCI) concerning all aspects of course administration and implementation.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

The post holder is responsible for:

  • The implementation of NST- Combat courses at TINS, ensuring that they are delivered to plan and that quality is maintained.

  • Providing direction and guidance to Naval Speciality Training Instructors – (NSTI-C) and Naval Specialty Training Support Staff – Combat (NSTSS-C), including professional development and training.

  • The day-to-day leadership and management of the NST- Combat team delivering the courses to ensure that all training targets are met.

  • Establishing and maintaining effective links with local RSNF Liaison Officers.

  • Contributing to preparation of timetables, scheduling and allocation of NSTI- Combat.

  • Contributing to the acquisition, allocation, non-intrusive maintenance and use of training resources including textbooks, workbooks, classrooms, laboratories, training devices, and consumables.

  • Working closely with the RSNF Surveillance and Trainee Welfare teams to ensure appropriate levels of Trainee discipline are maintained.

  • Reviewing NSTI- Combat performance through lesson observations.

  • Managing, directing and planning workload of the NST- Combat team.

  • Maintaining effective working relationships with the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) team to ensure activities in the LRC are complementary to the mainstream teaching and remain an effective part of the program.

  • Ensuring that all SHE requirements are communicated to staff and met in the Naval Specialty Training environment.

  • Ensuring that the Performance Development Reviews (PDRs) of direct reports are completed to schedule, identifying development needs and ensuring effective objectives are communicated and realised.

  • Selecting and developing appropriate course material to match students’ abilities and requirements.

  • Providing regular updates to the NSTM on training performance, trainee discipline and any other issues that require his assistance.

  • Ensuring that all reports are completed and submitted in a timely manner.

  • Ensuring that all quality process documentation requirements are implemented and communicated to the NST- Combat team.

  • The post holder will be expected to operate to a standard of absolute integrity and professionalism.

  • The post holder will ensure the completion of any other reasonable request by their line manager, which aligns with Company business.

 

RECRUITMENT SPECIFICATION

Essential

The post holder must:

  • Have strong experience of leading a team of instructors and overseeing training delivery to a high standard.

  • Be a graduate of an advanced military trade school or an industry equivalent.

  • Have substantial practical experience in their specialty.

  • Have successfully completed a military Defence Train the Trainer or UKG approved instructional techniques course (RQF Level 3), or Saudi equivalent.

  • Have recent instructional experience.

  • Be a good team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Be fluent in English with a minimum of IELTS 6.0 for non-native English language speakers.

  • Demonstrate high levels of cultural sensitivity.

Desirable

The post holder should:

  • Have knowledge and experience of different teaching methodologies and associated techniques.

  • Have knowledge and experience of developing training materials.

  • Have experience using interactive media, including e-content, for teaching.

  • Have experience of delivering training to a military customer, or a customer in a regulated environment.
