Role Description:
We have an exciting opportunity for a 1st Class Machinist to join our Mechanical team based at Osborne Naval Shipyard, South Australia.
We are seeking an experienced 1st Class CNC Machinist who is capable across multiple CNC machine types, manual machining, and with fitting experience to join our day shift teams. As the 1st CNC Class Machinist, you will receive four weeks’ annual leave, RDOs, uniform, access to on-site canteen.
Core Duties:
- Undertake CNC component machining across a range of CNC machines to meet scheduled requirements.
- Manual Milling, turning, and fitting of complex components.
- Supporting Apprentices in day-to-day learning and skill development as required
- Ensure that all appropriate documentation for engineering systems and defect reporting is incorporated for traceability
- Liaise with BAE Systems’ Quality staff to ensure compliance with project quality requirements
- Comply with BAE Systems Safety, Health, and Environment procedures with the requirements of the BAE Systems’ Quality systems as they relate to respective areas of activity
- Alert the organisation to potential or known problems that affect the quality of BAE Systems’ products and services
- Provide input and offering recommendations for the improvement of company processes and procedures
- Validate parts as they are manufactured
Essential Skills:
- A Mechanical trade certificate
- CNC and Manual Machining experience.
- Experience in programming and operating Mazak CNC mills and lathes would be an advantage.
- Experience in In-situ machining would be desirable.
- Fitting experience would also be an advantage.
- Experience and willingness to work with and develop Apprentices
- The ability to obtain and maintain a defence security clearance.
- A strong team focus and a can-do attitude.
- The ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders.
- The ability to follow BAE Maritime Australia Process instructions and complete the appropriate documentation requirements.
- A committed approach to BAE Maritime Australia Safety Policies.
The Hunter Class Frigate Team
The Hunter Class Frigate Program is transforming Australia’s shipbuilding industry by supporting the building of a world-class, continuous naval shipbuilding capability for our nation.
The Hunter class frigates are based on BAE Systems’ Type 26 Global Combat Ship design, modified to meet the Royal Australian Navy’s operational requirements.
Each warship will feature an acoustically-quiet hull and unique sonar capabilities, modular digital design and open systems architecture to facilitate through-life support and upgrades as new technology develops.
