Job title:  Higher Apprentice – Project Management and Control

Location:  Glascoed.  Note that the Glascoed site is not readily accessible by public transport.

What you’ll be doing:

BAE Systems Land design and manufacture a wide range of munition products. It is essential that our products are high quality and totally conform to the customer’s requirements.

As a Project Management and Control Apprentice you will be supporting the application of Project Management (PM) practices, working under supervision and reporting to a Project Professional. Individuals in this role will be gaining experience of working in a fast-moving project environment.

As a Project Management and Control Apprentice, you will help to deliver across a spectrum of Project Management and Project Control competencies, including scheduling, resource demand, governance, earned value management and portfolio management through a central and integrated Project management information environment.

Specific activities could include:

  • Assist with regular project reporting of project progress including cost, time and quality.
  • Assist with project scheduling and planning across the project lifecycle.
  • Basic and routine problem solving.
  • Administration and general office skills including spreadsheets/Microsoft project/Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
  • Develop a knowledge of Munitions processes, procedures and toolsets.
  • Attend on the job training as appropriate.

As part of the selection process, you will need to demonstrate:

  • Awareness of the wider Project Management environment, and of developments and practices in the field.
  • Some understanding of the structure, organisation, processes and culture of the project, so as to be able to support implementation of appropriate Project Management approaches.
  • Understanding of how own duties relate to team and the wider PM function.
  • Applies problem solving techniques to routine situations under supervision, in the field of Project Management and Control.
  • Needs to work effectively in a team.
  • Communication is a key aspect of the job.

Export Control / Security:

Please be aware that many roles at BAE Systems are subject to both security and export control restrictions. These restrictions mean that factors such as your nationality, any nationalities you may have previously held, and your place of birth can restrict the roles you are eligible to perform within the organisation. All applicants must as a minimum achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard. Many roles also require higher levels of National Security Vetting where applicants must typically have 5 to 10 years of continuous residency in the UK depending on the vetting level required for the role, to allow for meaningful security vetting checks.

Qualification requirements

5 GCSE A*-C or 9-4 (or equivalent) Including Maths and English

 A minimum of 72 UCAS points (180 points old system), or equivalent (excluding UCAS points gained at AS level).
