Job title: Government Relations Manager

Location: Tokyo, Japan: Willing to travel domestically and internationally for client engagement and events.

Salary: Negotiable depending on experience

What you’ll be doing:

  • Building a strong professional network and creating engagement plans with Japan’s Ministry of Defence (MoD), Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), and Ministry of Economy, Trade & Industry (METI)
  • Facilitating relationships between internal stakeholders and government officials on various business opportunities
  • Identify new opportunities and promote BAE Systems products and capabilities with relevant stakeholders, decision makers and influencers
  • Developing in-house expertise by analysing and interpreting Japan’s defence and security policies
  • Positioning BAE Systems as a thought leader with key ministries
  • Representing BAE Systems on policy discussion at various industry forums and events
  • Researching and monitoring upcoming legislation to better prepare BAE Systems stakeholders
  • Supporting various internal stakeholders in navigating the business opportunities through the defence procurement process
  • Partnering with BAE Systems communications to identify and leverage Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) opportunities

Your skills and experiences:

  • In depth knowledge of Japan’s Government, structure and processes
  • Significant experience working in government, Self Defense Forces or with government departments for Japanese Prime industry
  • Possess a full appreciation and understanding of Japan’s Defence Procurement Process
  • Proven track record of developing and maintaining Government relationships, both internally within Japan but also ideally externally with the UK, US & Australian Governments
  • Fluent in written and spoken Japanese and English

The Business Development Team:

BAE Systems Japan GK is currently in search of a skilled Government Relations Manager to join our dynamic team in Tokyo, Japan. This pivotal role will be instrumental in advancing BAE Systems’ business interests within Japan. Reporting directly to the Country Manager, you will operate within the Head Office GBD business, focusing on a broader strategic perspective. Responsibilities will include cultivating robust relationships with high-level government stakeholders, particularly within the defense sector, and fostering strategic partnerships. The successful candidate will engage with government departments including JMOD and METI to establish and nurture connections, while also focusing on organisational risk mitigation. Furthermore, you will provide insightful counsel to the company, offering strategic guidance on avenues for growth based on analysis of defense and procurement policies. This role would suit a proactive Relationship Manager who can navigate complex governmental landscapes and drive strategic decision-making to propel BAE Systems’ success in Japan.
