About the OPPORTUNITY
We have new opportunities for Pipefitter Apprentices to join our Hunter Class Frigate Program based at the Osborne Naval Shipyard — one of the most digitally advanced naval shipyards in the world.
We are now accepting applications for our 2027 apprenticeship program commencing in February. It’s an exciting time to join us and a great place to start a career in shipbuilding.
As a Pipefitter Apprentice you will gain practical experience as you rotate through the shipyard, whilst completing a Certificate III in Engineering Fabrication (Pipefitting).
This is a challenging and exciting opportunity which will develop your skills to become an extremely versatile fabrication tradesperson. Working in a state-of-the-art workshop or on the ships with a great team, your responsibilities will include:
- Fabricating/Installing spools with a variety of materials
- Learning different types of welding processes, including MIG, TIG & STICK (GTAW/FCAW/MMAW/GMAW), utilising a range of metals
- Develop knowledge of fabrication codes and standards
- Develop mechanical fitting skills during assembly and testing
- Applying health and safety processes in the workplace
- Contributing to improving business culture with regards to people, process and systems
About YOU
As an ideal applicant for this opportunity, you will have:
- An understanding about what a Pipefitters role entails
- An ability to work individually and collaborate with others as a part of a team
- Effective communication, both written and verbal
- Behaviours that demonstrate integrity, respect, and honesty
- A positive outlook and enthusiasm to grow and develop in your chosen field
- Initiative to problem solve and proactively in engage in the tasks of your role
- Certificate 2 in Engineering preferred not essential
- A demonstrated interest and understanding of becoming an apprentice in a highly sought-after trade
