Systems Engineer – ILS

Job Location: This role is based in Adelaide SA.

Role Description:

The Systems Engineer (ILS) is responsible for developing, maintaining, and implementing ILS management plans and processes for the DDG Upgrade Program.

The role includes preparing and updating technical documents for the operation and maintenance of the DDG Ship Platform and supporting the Engineering Team in delivering engineering changes.

You will also coordinate and implement logistics support strategies to optimise system performance, reduce downtime, and improve overall reliability within the CSI‑IPT.

Core Duties:

  • Coordinate with design and development teams to integrate ILS requirements into system architecture and specifications.
  • Develop and implement logistics support plans to ensure resources, spares, and documentation are available throughout the system life cycle.
  • Support the development of ILS plans, conduct ILS assessments for PECIA development and AD514‑1 engineering changes to Combat System Elements.
  • Create and execute obsolescence management strategies for system components and technologies.
  • Communicate performance improvement recommendations to stakeholders and align them with organisational goals.
  • Provide SME guidance on LSA activities across the CCA.
  • Maintain and improve standard logistics processes and functions.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external customers through logistics initiatives.
  • Conduct Operator and Maintenance Task Analysis and document corrective and preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Assist with Maintenance Requirements Determination (MRD), maintenance policy, servicing schedules, and monitoring in‑service maintenance programs.
  • Support development of Logistics Information Systems and Maintenance Management Systems to ensure accurate mission and support data.
  • Perform technical spares assessments, including identification, optimisation, and evaluation of special spares.

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (supply support, management, engineering, etc) and/or substantial relevant experience.
  • Understanding of defence Systems Engineering lifecycle and how Logistics Engineering fits within Systems Engineering processes.
  • understanding of ILS processes/procedures preferably in a defence environment.
  • Understanding of Configuration management and asset management within defence Maritime environment
  • Experience in collaborating with cross-functional teams to refine and optimize engineering processes for increased efficiency.
  • Proven skills and experience in technical document writing in defence standards.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain NV1 Australian Defence Security Clearance.

The CSI-IPT Team

The CSI-IPT – formed by the Commonwealth of Australia as represented by Defence, BAE Systems Australia, Saab Australia, and Lockheed Martin Australia – was established under the CCA and sees the parties work collaboratively as one team.

Through the Delivery Tasking Statement the CSI-IPT will upgrade the Aegis Combat System, introduce Saab’s new Australian Interface (AI), and incorporate the Tomahawk Weapon System on the first of the RAN’s three Hobart Class destroyers.

A team of more than 130 Defence and industry personnel in Adelaide and Melbourne will deliver integration, testing, assessment, installation, and certification of the combat system, and lay the foundations of a sovereign Combat Systems Integration capability in Australia to support Tier 1, Aegis-equipped surface combatants for the RAN.
