Chief Instructor English Language

JOB PURPOSE 

BAE Systems is the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor under the Government-to-Government arrangements that are in place to provide equipment, support and training to Saudi Arabia.  We provide maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft and train RSAF and Royal Saudi Naval Force personnel safely in a training environment in how to use their aircraft, equipment and weapons.

As the Chief English Language Instructor, you will manage and supervise the School of English, its staff and delivery of English language training.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Run the school in the absence of the Foundation Training Manager.

  • Apply and ensure company policies and procedures are being consistently adhered to in the delivery of the English language training curriculum.

  • Chair regular meetings with senior teachers to review the delivery of the training curriculum, improve standards and facilitate communication.

  • Assign tasks to Senior Teachers as and when required to ensure efficient running of the school.

  • Lead and review the performance of Senior English language teachers including professional development and training.

  • Lead the re-streaming of classes, cadets and teachers upon completion of each course cycle.

  • Monitor the accuracy of timetables, scheduling and allocation of teachers to classes to ensure efficient running of the school.

  • Monitor the acquisition, allocation, maintenance and use of training resources including textbooks, classrooms, laboratories and training devices.

  • Raise reports on the performance of individual cadets, classes, teachers, departmental performance and other matters as required with senior management.

  • Chair Academic Review Boards and make decisions on student progression.

  • Ensure effective use across the school of the TMIS / LMIS system to maintain accurate, up to date, comprehensive and easily accessible training records.

  • Counsel cadets on academic and disciplinary matters that could not be satisfactorily dealt with by Senior teachers.

  • Liaise positively with Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) personnel to ensure efficient running of the school.

  • Liaise positively with the Testing team to ensure efficient running of the school.

  • Liaise positively with the StanEval team to ensure efficient running of the school.

  • Provide feedback to management to improve service performance, responsiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Ensure staff compliance with SHE policy and processes and duty of care.

  • Ensure staff undertake all mandatory and developmental training as required by the Company.

  • Ensure staff adhere to acceptable standards of behaviour, dress and performance as defined by company policy.

  • Any other duties as deemed reasonable and appropriate by senior management.

 

RECRUITMENT SPECIFICATION

Essential

  • English language ability to IELTS 7 or equivalent achieved within the last two years for non-native speakers.

  • A Bachelor (or higher) degree in English or related discipline and a postgraduate certificate in TEFL. E.g. Cambridge CELTA or Trinity Cert TESOL or equivalent.

  • Extensive recent experience in teaching English as a foreign or second language.

  • Recent experience in managing in an English as a foreign or second language environment as a Senior Teacher/Instructor or equivalent.

  • Experience of managing a large team on a day-to-day basis and leading by example.

  • Ability to handle multiple issues at once and prioritise tasks in terms of importance.

  • Experience of constructively engaging with senior staff and/or managers to find solutions to short- and long-term challenges.

  • Ability to deal with a variety of stakeholders and scenarios of varied status with professionalism and cultural sensitivity.

  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills.

  • High degree of competence with computer software, especially Microsoft Office.

  • Knowledge and experience of materials production and curriculum design and development.

  • Experience of working in a military environment.

Desirable

  • Master’s degree (MA or MSc) in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), Applied Linguistics or a related field

  • Experience of working in the Middle East.

  • Experience of teacher training.

  • Current IELTS examiner status.
