What you’ll be doing:
- Act as part of the Joint Design Authority (JDA) to ensure integrated design solutions across functional and organizational boundaries, achieving a balanced whole boat design
- Own and manage contractual requirements for Provide Power – Electrical, following the RAMP guidelines
- Collaborate with Project Delivery Managers and Integrated Delivery Teams to ensure the engineered design aligns with customer intent
- Conduct design reviews throughout the project lifecycle per BAE Systems’ tailored LCM process, supporting assessments at all design levels
- Serve as the Joint Design Authority delegate, ensuring the design is safe, compliant, and meets programme requirements
- Provide technical support across functional areas, contributing to wider SSNA responsibilities
- Represent JDA in coordinating industry partners and stakeholders to align with programme outcomes
- Lead supplier engagement activities to assess design assurance and alignment with whole boat objectives
- Perform supplier capability assessments to support the Mutual Assurance policy
- Support risk and opportunity identification at system, function, and programme levels
- Manage certification planning and execution to produce interim and final design certifications, ensuring design fitness and approval
Your skills and experiences:
- A degree in Electrical Engineering such as BEng (Hons), MSc (Eng), MEng (Hons), MPhil (Eng), PhD, or EngD
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) through IET or Chartered Marine Engineer (CMarEng) or working towards
Experience and expertise in:
- Power Systems Architecture
- Power Systems Modelling (Simulation and Analysis)
- Power Generation and Distribution – both AC & DC
- Power System Protection and Co-ordination
- Power System Operation
- Power Electronics

The team:
Acting on behalf of the Office of the Chief Engineer (OCE), the Assistant Chief Engineer – Power (Electrical) oversees the SSNA design within the Provide Power – Electrical functional area. In this role, you will represent the Chief Engineer to ensure the SSNA design complies with contractual, regulatory, legal, and safety requirements, in line with the Engineering Authority’s technical delegation. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
