What you will be doing
You will be involved in completing work in a variety of specialist teams within the department, including those focused on weight engineering, stability and hydrostatics, infrastructure support, seamanship and outfit, manoeuvring and control, fluid dynamics and design and development. You will also have the opportunity to get involved in all stages of the Submarine’s lifecycle, from concept design through to in-build support and commissioning activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Supporting the design of submarine hull form and appendages.
• Working closely with the MOD and other external stakeholders to agree and understand engineering and design requirements.
• Participate in various design working groups with internal stakeholders (e.g. mechanical engineering teams) and external stakeholders (e.g. MOD, QinetiQ, Rolls Royce and other suppliers) to design the form of the hull and other hydrodynamic aspects.
• Undertaking a range of analyses and calculations (e.g. relating to stability and manoeuvrability).
• Providing delivery teams across all submarine programmes (Astute, Dreadnought and SSNA) with guidance and support in matters related to naval architecture.
• Supporting commissioning activities to ensure the timely delivery of submarines to the Royal Navy.
Skills
As a minimum requirement you’ll need to be on track to obtain, a 2.2 in your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Marine Technology, Naval Architecture, Small Craft Technology, and Offshore Engineering. Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture with High Performance Vehicles, or Naval Architecture with Ocean Engineering. Ship Science, with hons in Naval Architecture, Offshore Engineering, Naval Engineering, or Yacht and Small Craft.
To be considered for this role you must be returning to university to complete your degree.
