Job Title: Undergraduate Electromagnetics Software Developer Location: Filton (Bristol) BAE Systems do offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements, however it is expected on our Undergraduate Programme you will be required to attend your site 3-4 days per week. Please note, this may be subject to change in line with the needs of the business. The hybrid working arrangements including which days you are required to work on site/remotely will be outlined by your line manager. Working with customers and local partners, we develop, engineer, manufacture, and support products and systems to deliver military capability, protect national security, and keep critical information and infrastructure secure. What you will be doing: Working in the EM group at Filton, the placement will involve contributing to the development and testing of Computational Electromagnetics software for use by BAE Systems on various platforms and technology programmes. Tools include the solvers and also pre and post processing software. Applications the tools are used for include EMC problems, installed antenna modelling, radar scattering and others. This placement will involve working with software so some pre-existing knowledge of software development would be beneficial. Also good mathematical skills will be required in working on and assisting in implementing different algorithms. The existing software is largely C/C++ and Fortran. The team also use Python and Matlab for testing algorithms and developing test harnesses. Software development tools used are Visual Studio, DDT and repository systems such as SVN and CVS. Pre-existing knowledge of these tools will be useful, but not essential. Specific activities could include: • Working in the Electromagnetics Group, you will help in the development and testing of Electromagnetic simulation software Skills As a minimum requirement you’ll need to have obtained, or be predicted to obtain, a 2.2 in your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science.
