About the OPPORTUNITY

We have an exciting opportunity for a Systems Technical Authority to join our Maritime program based at Garden Island, NSW.

Reporting to the CLCM Program Manager, the role of the Systems Technical Authority will involve the exercise of engineering judgement within broad and often undefined parameters of tasks undertaken by the DDG Program, in full cognisance of the likely effect on the business as a whole

Key responsibilities include:

  • Primary responsibility for engineering output approvals to ensure the delivered products robustly and demonstrably meet their requirements
  • Ensuring compliance with BAE Systems Australia Engineering Governance requirements to ensure that all products delivered:
  • are safe to own, operate and maintain;
  • are environmentally responsible;
  • meet agreed and understood performance criteria and other requirements;
  • have been developed by appropriately competent people;
  • comply with regulatory and statutory technical standards; and
  • have been subjected to processes of development and production that provide consistent and demonstrable quality.
  • Ensuring compliance with BAE Systems Australia Engineering Lifecycle as specified in LCM.ENG.00.POL before granting design approval by ensuring that:
    • the engineering processes and practices used to develop and qualify the products are in accordance with LCM.ENG.05.03.WI;
    • the engineering program planning is consistent with the technical objectives of the project and is technically achievable; and
    • the engineering qualification is adequate to satisfy the ‘fit for purpose’ criteria.
    • Ensuring appropriate processes are established and executed by the project to:
    • identify and manage technical risks associated with the system development and system integration programs;
    • assure the safety and integrity of the company’s products, principally through the review of systems engineering outputs and independent review of system designs together with all engineering work products by appropriate persons;
    • ensure that the design meets all statutory regulatory requirements;
    • maintain the design and its documentation in accordance with the applicable configuration management, change management and traceability processes; and
    • ensure systems development undertaken on the project meet current statutory regulations and is in line with current company systems practices.
  • Foster a culture of openness, responsibility and consistent correctness and completeness
  • Work within agreed project technical, cost and schedule constraints
  • Responsible for complying with the requirements of the BAE Systems Australia Quality Systems as they relate to your areas of activity
  • Responsible for providing input and offering recommendations for the improvement of company processes and standard procedures
  • Other duties as required

About YOU

  • Tertiary degree in Engineering with minimum of 7 years of post-graduate experience
  • Holds CPEng status or has the ability to obtain it, with current registration
  • Industry and professional experience to satisfy the requirements of holding a Systems Technical Authority Delegation
  • Defence security clearance or eligibility to obtain
  • Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic In Arms (ITAR) regulations
