Job Title: Submarine Stealth Engineer

Location: Barrow-in-Furness

What you’ll be doing:

·        Support work with multi-functional teams to design and develop low signature equipment, systems and the whole platform, by agreeing technical requirements, assessment methodologies and acceptance criteria

·        Supporting the generation of acoustic, electromagnetic and non-acoustic signature reports at key review stages of the submarine design.

·        Contribute to the review of system design documentation to ensure that electromagnetic and non-acoustic signature requirements have been addressed

·        Support the modelling of the signature contributions of equipment, systems and the whole boat using the latest software packages on our in-house High Performance Computing (HPC) cluster

·        Collaborating with the Stealth Engineering Test team to develop test procedures and analysis in test cells to develop acoustic, electromagnetic and non-acoustic signature management features, including the design of appropriate test rigs

·        Interpreting acoustic, electromagnetic and non-acoustic measurement and assessment of submarine machinery at factory and on board, ensuring that signature levels are suitable to maintain the stealth requirements

·        Support the progression of department Research activities

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

·        Qualified to postgraduate level in Maths, Physics, Oceanography, Engineering, or associated STEM degree

·        Experience from a defence or large-scale manufacturing company

Desirable:

·        HNC/HND with appropriate/relevant experience

·        Modelling CFD or programming

·        Knowledge of submarine or naval engineering

·        Knowledge of radar systems and associated technologies
