Job Title: Software Engineering Lead

Location: Broad Oak, Portsmouth. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: Circa £65,000 Depending on skills and experience 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Support the Project Engineering Manager in the delivery of budgeted tasks & bids through the efficient employment and tasking of systems and software engineers
  • Proactively task and monitor the engineering team in accordance with BAE Systems’ processes to deliver the contracted deliverables against the agreed schedule
  • Prepare/review engineering estimates and schedules
  • Forecast the required resource for each task and update the resource management toolset as directed
  • Provide support to the appropriate identification of engineering risks and subsequent analysis
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering reports for Governance Meetings
  • Deputise for the Project Engineering Manager as required
  • Supporting continuous improvement in engineering capability in terms of people, processes, tools and technology

Your skills and experiences:

  • A sound knowledge and experience of software and/or systems engineering principles is essential
  • Ability to demonstrate an organised approach to work planning including a commitment to good time management
  • Ability to co-operate and co-ordinate activities with other project and teams within TSG to engender a ‘one team’ approach e.g. to address resource peaks / troughs
  • Good knowledge of project management planning tools such as Microsoft Project and resource/forward load planning tools highly desirable
  • Ability to carry out engineering costing: resource and cost estimating
  • Ability to motivate the engineering team (especially software engineers) to deliver to budget, to timescale and to the required level of quality and completeness
  • Have experience of working with senior level internal stakeholders

The MimesisTM Team:

MimesisTM provides a battlespace simulation of the maritime world; from terrain and seabed, to weather and underwater acoustics, accurately modelling the movement and behaviour of ships, submarines and other platforms, and digitally replicating their unique capabilities (sonars, radars, weapons). Our product supports naval training, enables customers to experiment with novel concepts or capabilities, and allows design teams to conduct test and integration of new platform systems and capability upgrades, reducing operational risk.

As a Software Engineering Lead within the MimesisTM team, you will lead part of a growing team of software engineers in the design and development of new modules and content for the product, working closely with the Product Delivery Lead, Project Engineering Manager and the rest of the product management team to support the delivery of the product to our customers.
