Job Title: Senior Engineer – Materials Safety Advisor

What you’ll be doing:
• Reviewing proposed materials for compliance against REACH, COSHH and Environmental legislation as well as fire safety standards
• Preparing documents to provide evidence of material safety assessments
• Planning for materials which may not be available in the future and identifying potential alternatives
• Monitoring, controlling and recording the use of the non-metallic materials throughout the submarine programmes
• Working with suppliers and installers to ensure material controls are correctly applied
• Interfacing with external regulators and internal stakeholders to ensure material selection safety standards are met
Your skills and experiences:
• Degree in a STEM subject or equivalent Health and Safety (desirable)
• Experience of completing safety assessments for material selection or working within a legislative framework

The Materials Technology team:
The materials technology team play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety of the submarine which requires involvement in all aspects of the design. The team also work end to end across the submarine build program from the selection and purchase of materials through to the final installation and inspection. This provides significant opportunity to build a detailed understanding of the programs and to support the business with problem solving. You will be working with a full range of non-metallic materials with the opportunity to build expertise across the team through both further training and internal knowledge sharing.
