Job Title: Radar Mechanical Engineering Manager

Location: Cowes, we offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: Up to £69,000 dependent on skills and experiences + bonus

In this fantastic opportunity, you will be making a real difference both internally for our teams delivering and our customers across a broad market in both UK and Export.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Leading and developing the Radar Mechanical Engineering team across an exciting product portfolio and the full engineering life cycle
  • Responsible for the Learning & Development of the Mechanical Engineers reporting into you and working with the other Mechanical Engineering Managers / Mechanical Engineering Discipline Lead in actioning career moves according to development plans
  • Plans and supervises the work of a team of engineers to accomplish specific engineering projects, directing work assignments, scheduling, and reviews of work in progress
  • Reviews technical feasibility of proposed solutions to engineering problems
  • Provides technical leadership in the resolution of complex technical problems
  • Implementing design changes, in accordance with standards, regulations alongside compliance with company standards, processes, and guidelines
  • Leading and reviewing Mechanical Engineering input and estimates into bids
  • Utilising a wide Engineering toolset and propose new tools, training, processes that would benefit the discipline and team

Your skills and experiences:

  • Strong Mechanical Engineering background specialising in at least one area of the Mechanical Engineering discipline, i.e., Computational Fluid Dynamics, Finite Element Analysis, Structures or Thermal Systems
  • A broad understanding of the wider Mechanical Engineering discipline
  • The ability to provide subject matter expertise and guidance to others within the same team or same discipline area
  • Strong leadership, stakeholder management and diplomacy skills
  • Being a strong influencer in the Mechanical Engineering community, embracing change and continuous improvement throughout the organisation
  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or other related discipline
  • CEng level or equivalent level of capability

The Mechanical Engineering Radar team:

As you engage with engineering functions across the business, as our team covers the whole engineering lifecycle using the latest cutting-edge technology, becoming a member of the Mechanical Engineering Radar team will provide you with significant exposure inside the larger BAE Systems organisation.

Leading the Mechanical Engineering Team in the Radar sector of the Products area, both technically and organisationally, is where you can truly make an impact in this position.

Being a subject matter expert in at least one area of Mechanical Engineering disciplines, you’ll be responsible for working with the discipline lead for managing resourcing of engineers, line leadership, career development and training.
