Role Description:
We have an exciting opportunity contributing to the engineering design of the Hunter Class Frigate Underwater Warfare Systems, including within the wider Combat System where you will lease with other Combat System leads and Design Authorities to ensure coherency across the Combat System and incorporation of customer requirements.
As the Product (Sonar Dome and Polemast) Engineer, you will capture and maintain the functional, physical and specialist engineering suite of information (safety, security, EMI/C, etc.) for the Hunter Class Underwater Warfare Systems, ensuring physical and functional interfaces are captured fully and agreed.
Core Duties:
- Design definition documentation for Sonar Dome and Polemasts, supporting all Platform and Combat system integration needs
- Review and approve technical and programmatic data deliverables from underwater warfare system vendors to ensure consistency with contracted requirements and the HCF combat system and ship platform
- Provide technical input into procurement, design reviews, installation, test, trials, acceptance and engineering change activities
- Collate Installation, Activation, Testing and Certification documentation in support of Manufacturing Engineering, and RVCA
- Provide all technical expertise required by Supply Chain in the procurement of equipment and related services
- Maintain Stage 1 Design baseline information including related IPMD, ensuring configuration control and responsibility for a coherent document set from a Mission system view
- Develop and Support Ship Installation, Activation, Testing and Certification capabilities as well as planning and for your systems, liaising with and directing external contractors and CSI-IPT as appropriate
- Provide Acoustic and Topside Integration advice to other areas of WoS design on request
Essential Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Mechatronic or Aeronautical Engineering
- Experience in naval platforms particularly sonar systems and topside design highly regarded
- Experience of combat system integration, installation, test, trial and acceptance of equipment in a Naval environment highly desirable
- Knowledge of system engineering development methodologies, strategies and toolsets used in a Naval environment
- Defence security clearance or eligibility to obtain
- Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic In Arms (ITAR) regulations
