Job Description
Job Title: Principal Operations Technician (Control Engineer)
Location: Barrow-In-Furness – Shift work
Salary: £40,748+ depending on skills and experience
What you’ll be doing:
- Taking control of work processes – Interfacing with all parties across site
- Complying to Operating Instructions for Nuclear Facilities (Nuclear Basline Position)
- Carrying out plant and key infrastructure walk downs – and doing check lists for Chilled Water, Sea Water, Demineralised Water, etc.
- Generating and reviewing operating instructions
- Monitoring of plant status and oversight of building management systems that control heating, ventilation, lighting high and low voltage electrical distribution, fire detection/suppression systems and other mechanical services. Eg demineralised water, HP air, LP air.
- Escalating and communicating to site wide customers, for any impact to infrastructure or assets and co-ordination of initial incident response and recovery plan
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
- HNC (or equivalent) Relevant engineering background (Electrical, Mechanical, Instrumentation & Controls)
- Previous experience in a similar role in an industrial or commercial environment
- Maintenance of facilities and infrastructure experience
Desirable
- SAP knowledge
- Knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS)
- Understanding of working in a nuclear licensed site

The Facilities Management team:
You will be heavily involved in the oversight of the infrastructure to support the Dreadnought Programme and final submarines of the Astute class. You will also be a key player in bringing these new facilities online to support these goals and develop the yard for the future. You will be interacting directly with the customer and senior stakeholders regularly and developing significant relations across the business. There will also be prime development and progression opportunities for yourself to move within BAE.
