Job Title: Principal Engineer – Software Assurance

This is an exciting opportunity to work in the software assurance team of the Type 26 project, you will be helping to ensure that the latest RN warships are secure and safe for the people that live and work on-board.
What you’ll be doing:
· Provide technical leadership to the Software Assurance engineers to ensure that software within the T26 programme achieves and maintains the required level of assurance with suitable evidence.
· Work with key stakeholders across the ship (Platform, Marine, Combat, Security, Test and Commissioning etc) to define, implement and deliver against processes that will achieve suitable control of the software build state of the ship and underpin the ability to deliver a Software Register to the Customer with each ship at delivery.
· Review and report on maturity of software deliverables and provide advice on the legislative requirements relating to software deliverables, including software licensing and standard compliance.
· Support and participate in the validation of software assurance information via audits and reviews when necessary
· Lead the running of working groups and steering groups as required by the programme and support team members to deliver their scope
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
· Degree in a relevant subject e.g. Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or equivalent experience.
· Authoritative knowledge of configuration control processes and procedures
· Experience of software assurance processes and procedures
· Knowledge / Awareness of processes and tools used in Software development
· Good understanding of software quality standards (e.g. ISO 9001, TickIT, etc)
Desirable:
· Working knowledge of IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Service Management (SM) practices and toolsets e.g. BMC Remedy and JIRA. Practitioner, by experience and expertise, in Software Engineering and associated standards
· Experience of Systems / Software engineering throughout the life cycle
· Experience of software intensive naval systems
· Understanding of the Software related Defence Standards (Def. Stan 00-56, Def. Stand 00-55)
Qualifications:
Engineers at all levels should possess an academic qualification in Engineering or other related STEM subjects (or equivalent experience) as well as specific (either academic or professional) qualifications and become recognised as Incorporated or Chartered Engineers through an appropriate recognised professional institution. Engineers are encouraged, and will be supported, to achieve the relevant accreditation. Preference will be given to candidates who are already professionally registered.

T26 Software Assurance & Service Management team:
In this role you will be a part of the Type 26 Project, one of the biggest defence projects in the next two decades. You will work with the lead engineers responsible for the various systems on the ship to deliver against processes that will achieve suitable control of the software build state of the ship and underpin the ability to deliver a Software Register to the Customer with each ship at delivery.
