Job title: Principal Control & Instrumentation Engineer
Location: Barrow-in-Furness, Filton, Portsmouth, or Weymouth. (Travel to Barrow 3-4 times per month will be required). We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

What you’ll be doing:
- Equipment specification and analysis, Part and BOM creation
- Understanding our customers’ challenging needs and developing, validating and managing requirements
- Working with system owners, suppliers and the customer to support manufacture and delivery of C&I equipment
- Developing C&I systems and test systems while providing evidence of fitness for purpose
- Compilation of technical system documentation and schematics to include system design, functional design, validation and verification, test, qualification and manufacture contracts
- Integrating systems containing electronic, mechanical and software sub-systems, understanding the potential impact on the whole boat and interfacing systems
- Verifying that customer needs are satisfied through qualification and test activities
- Lead technical work packages managing design and deliverable evidence
Your skills and experiences:
Essential
- Understanding of C&I systems design and demonstrable career experience with these systems
- Degree level qualification (or equivalent experience) in relevant STEM subject (Engineering/ Physics/ Maths/ Science)
- Knowledge of the system engineering lifecycle with ability to apply good systems engineering practices to your work
- Experience with leading and coaching others
- Chartered engineer or working towards this level
Desirable
- Awareness of Defence Standards and Industry standards for example IEC 61508 / 61511, ARP 4754, DO-178C / DO-254

The Integration, Instrumentation and Controls equipment (I&ICE) team:
As a Principal (C&I) Engineer you will be working in a sub systems engineering team, helping us to design, develop, integrate, manage and support control systems for in-service/future submarines. You will be working within the Active Vehicle Control (AVC) team on high integrity control systems that control the submarine platform manoeuvrability elements. This role will involve employing niche and novel technologies onto the submarine platform which hasn’t been done before. You will be working with the design, integration and testing of safety critical control systems, associated equipment, and facilities. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
