What you’ll be doing:
- Commissioning and fault finding on Submarine Propulsion systems within a shore-based test facility
- Carrying out commissioning and maintenance of Steam Boiler Instrumented systems
- Carrying out routine Commissioning work with limited supervision with an awareness of safety consequences in a high-risk environment
- Demonstrating an in-depth knowledge of Submarine Propulsion systems and a strong knowledge of other system interfaces
- Leads by example, mentoring less experienced members of the team with behavioural competencies & positively influencing members of the team
- Deputise for the relevant Commissioning Project Leader as and when required, including supervision of personnel on shift
- Demonstrating willingness to work flexibility on shifts to support Machinery trials and other test section’s commissioning activities
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
- HNC/HND/Degree or equivalent qualification or experience in Electrical Engineering
- Detailed knowledge of safety controls & procedures in a high-risk environment, including electrical isolations and live working
- Knowledge and experience of Commissioning, Maintenance and Electrical Testing
- Knowledge and experience of Control and Instrumentation Systems
- Experience of authoring engineering documentation such as test forms, operating procedures & tech notes
Desirable:
- Experience of software packages e.g., SAP & Teamcenter
- Experience commissioning and Fault finding on plant machinery and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC/DCS) e.g., Siemens Control Systems
- Experience in process manufacturing facilities
- Experience of communication protocols such as Profibus PA Low Voltage Control, Data Communications and Fibre Optics

The SMITE E&I Team:
This role will provide you with the opportunity to increase your knowledge across 3 platforms, Main Propulsion Machinery Package (MPMP), Facility Maintenance within SMITE, supporting on-board ships instrumentation trials. You will be joining an established team of competent and experienced Electrical Commissioning Engineers with to ensure Test & Commissioning activities undertaken are in accordance with Company Policies, Procedures and Legislation. You will be leading activities on shift, to take responsibility in becoming a Subject Matter Expert on Test Section Systems. This role will provide you with a unique opportunity to work on Ships Systems in a land based test facility, Steam boiler house control and instrumentation. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
