Job title: Pre-Sales Engineer

Location: Tokyo, Japan: We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: Negotiable depending on experience 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Support the APAC Business Development Lead and Group Business Development Tokyo team in prosecuting opportunities for Digital Intelligence in JMOD (Japanese MOD) and wider Japanese Government
  • Understand the stakeholder landscape within relevant account areas and develop productive and collaborative relationships with stakeholders in both Industry and Government, focusing on technical and engineering stakeholders
  • Be able to explain key technical aspects of BAE Systems products and solutions to customers, emphasizing differentiators from the competition, and address customers’ technical questions and concerns
  • Track developments in JMOD capability requirements and development programmes, with a focus on technology and engineering aspects
  • Coordinate effectively with colleagues outside Japan, acting as an interface between them and Japanese partners and customers where needed, primarily for business development but also (given the limited Digital Intelligence presence in Japan initially) for project delivery
  • Technical interpretation (Japanese to/from English) during customer and partner meetings, translation of technical content, and/or review of third party translated material to confirm accuracy
  • Support bid activity, including writing bid responses, and adapting/translating content from elsewhere in Digital Intelligence to be applicable to opportunities in Japan

 

Your skills and experiences:

  • Fluent Japanese and English required
  • Ideally an understanding of the Defence, Space or Cyber Security domains: Prior experience selling or delivering to JMOD or wider Japanese Government customers and programmes would be advantageous but not essential
  • A proven technical skillset across a range of disciplines would be valuable
  • Prior experience of business development would be desirable however not essential if domain knowledge and generalist technical skills are strong
  • Flexibility to work across UK time frames when required with travel to client sites within Japan and within the UK 

 

The Team:

This is an exciting opportunity where you will be supporting the growth of BAE Systems Digital Intelligence in Japan, across the entire portfolio including Cyber, C5ISR, CEMA and Space. Digital Intelligence is just beginning to establish its business in Japan, and this role will be key in building an understanding of customer technical domains, especially in JMOD, developing relationships with government and industry partners, and acting as an interface to/from Digital Intelligence technical subject matter experts based outside of Japan. You will work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders in country, working in a highly technical environment.  To ensure you are supported in joining BAE Systems the role will be based from the established BAE Japan GK office.

This role would suit a highly ambitious individual with a technical engineering educational background looking to establish themselves in industry with huge potential to establish and grow a technical pre / post sales career.
