Deputy Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI) Team Leader

JOB PURPOSE 

BAE Systems is the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor under the Government-to-Government arrangements that are in place to provide equipment, support and training to Saudi Arabia.  We provide maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft and train RSAF and Royal Saudi Naval Force personnel safely in a training environment in how to use their aircraft, equipment and weapons.

This role is responsible to undertake scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities of Non-Destructive Inspection in support of Typhoon operations and in accordance with the RSAF Typhoon maintenance policy, ensuring that all Continuing Airworthiness and Maintenance activities are carried out in accordance with BAE Systems Saudi Arabia SALAM Maintenance Organisation Exposition and associated Quality Management System. 

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Accountable to their Primary Line Manager; however, they have direct access to Secondary Line Manager. This is to provide an independent route to address any issues within the Non-Destructive Inspection maintenance environment.
  2. Undertake review of maintenance and challenge current practices and identify potential capacity for improvements within the organisation.
  3. Recognising any malpractice that could affect the airworthiness or safety of the assigned components or personnel within their area of responsibility and raising the issue/concern to the Senior Maintenance Manager.
  4. Ensuring that the necessary manpower and facilities resource are available, in accordance with company policies to enable their organisations to perform their duties and any contractual obligations.
  5. Monitor standards of the personnel within their organisation in order to identify any negative trends, non-conformities or motivational deficiencies.
  6. Accountable and responsible for all person’s development reports within their direct and indirect line management, within their Area of Responsibility.
  7. Providing a working environment of trust, where all employees of whom are professionals, each have a clear understanding of what standard of behaviour is considered acceptable or unacceptable, following the companies “Code of Conduct”.
  8. Provide training, consolidation and counterpart development activities to the RSAF personnel and BAE Systems personnel.
  9. Ensure all tasks are completed within designated timeframes to support Forward, Depth Maintenance and SMU activities.
  10. Ensure all NDI operations comply with company, RSAF, and regulatory safety and quality standards.
  11. Manage operational readiness of shop equipment in line with shop component repair plan and schedule necessary calibrations. Enhanced by ensuring the correct tooling, approved data is available. Raise appropriate media for deficiencies in approved data (e.g. TPRFs, TQs, etc.).
  12.  Any damage or deficiencies to equipment and infrastructure, are reported and monitored using the correct media (e.g. IDR, MDR, CAR, SORT, 1400-61, etc.).
  13. Ensure that all personnel undertaking maintenance in their area of responsibility are authorised.
  14. Maintain an anti-FOD surveillance and report potential Hazards, which is further enhanced by the regular oversight checks of the shop and the components in the shop.
  15. Ensure all maintenance tasks are carried out meet the highest quality standards, including recording of maintenance carried out on the airworthiness tool (ESS) to accurately reflect the work carried out, test results indications/ values, consumables and POL.
  16. Conduct oversight checks to ensure high standards of shop husbandry.
  17. Manage the TTP131 spreadsheet to reflect any forecasted planning, highlight any deficiencies or delivery/ FDD issues with consumables & PPE at the earliest opportunity.
  18. Oversee the development and training of NDI personnel, ensuring competency in all relevant NDI techniques and technologies.
  19. Support the transfer of knowledge and skill development among team members, including maintaining training records and logs.
  20. Ensure effective communication and coordination with maintenance teams, engineering departments, and management.
  21. Ensure daily shop status is updated in a timely fashion to support the reporting to customer and company.

 RECRUITMENT SPECIFICATION

Essential

  • Must Have extensive proven post qualification practical maintenance experience within operational flying aircraft environment supported by formal recorded workplace applied related training OR extensive experience on same aircraft type
  • Have attained Specialist Level 2 NDI qualification (e.g. EN4179, ASNT, PCN) in at least 4 methods (PT, MT, ET and UT)
  • Have extensive experience in a relevant management role.
  • Extensive experience working knowledge of EASA Part 145.
  • Excellent leadership management skills and proven ability to supervise all levels of engineering personnel.
  • Business unit level awareness of circumstances outside the organisation.

Desirable

  • Thorough understanding of company processes and procedures
  • Broad aerospace and defence company / industry knowledge.
  • Experienced – Certifying Engineer and extensive BAE Systems supervisory experience within the area of definition.
  • An understanding of RAF and /or RSAF engineering operating procedures.
  • A track record of meeting strict deadlines without compromising standards and quality.
  • Previous experience of delivering workplace training.
  • An understanding of ESS or similar electronic based reporting system
