Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI) Specialist

JOB PURPOSE 

BAE Systems is the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor under the Government-to-Government arrangements that are in place to provide equipment, support and training to Saudi Arabia.  We provide maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft and train RSAF and Royal Saudi Naval Force personnel safely in a training environment in how to use their aircraft, equipment and weapons.

This role is responsible to undertake scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities of Non-Destructive Inspection in support of Typhoon operations and in accordance with the RSAF Typhoon maintenance policy, ensuring that all Continuing Airworthiness and  Maintenance activities are carried out in accordance with BAE Systems Saudi Arabia SALAM Maintenance Organisation Exposition and associated Quality Management System. 

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Undertaking all NDI activities within the scope of the NDI test regime.
  • Ensuring all tasks are undertaken in accordance with company/RSAF procedures and processes.
  • Ensure that all electronic data systems are utilized correctly within process and adhere to operating procedures.
  • Ensuring that all personnel engaged in activities in areas under their control follow the correct engineering practices, observe safety precautions and that as far as is reasonably practicable no one is exposed to any unnecessary or uncontrolled risk.
  • In the absence of the work centre supervisor, he is to manage the available manpower by coordinating with their Specialist Supervisors to ensure aircraft generation.
  • Depth Management and Customer general information is readily available upon request.
  • Ensure all quality aspects of the tasks are complied with, and to the highest standards.
  • Ensure shift handovers are carried out without ambiguity and that daily diaries are maintained.
  • Ensure all tasks are undertaken in the specified timescales to support the AGF.
  • The prompt investigation of all components returned as defective, especially when subject to an incident report.
  • Ensure that all health and safety aspects of the task are fully complied with, and that all necessary protective equipment is available and serviceable and is used on each relevant task.
  • Ensure all tasks are undertaken using the correct tooling and adherence to tool control procedures are maintained.

 RECRUITMENT SPECIFICATION

Essential

  • A recognised qualification to NVQ3/ONC/OND/BTEC level in a relevant technical discipline, or a technical apprenticeship, or suitable equivalent technical qualification acceptable to M&CA.
  • Have extensive proven post qualification practical maintenance experience supported by formal recorded workplace applied related training.
  • Have attained Specialist Level 2 NDI qualification (e.g. EN4179, ASNT, PCN) in at least 4 methods (PT, MT, ET and UT)
  • Leadership skills and proven ability to supervise all levels of engineering personnel.

Desirable 

  • Thorough understanding of company processes and procedures.
  • Broad aerospace and defence company / industry knowledge.
  • Supervisory experience within the area of definition.
  • An understanding of RAF and /or RSAF engineering operating procedures.
  • A track record of meeting strict deadlines without compromising standards and quality.
  • Previous experience of delivering workplace training.
  • An understanding of ESS or similar electronic based reporting system.
  • Holds 2nd signature.

RECRUITMENT

The post holder will have the following background:

  • Demonstrate knowledge / understanding of aircraft maintenance and engineering.
  • Must have completed a recognised aircraft engineering apprenticeship in industry/military or similar qualification in aircraft systems.
  • Must Have Specialist Level 2 NDI qualification (e.g. EN4179, ASNT, PCN) in at least 4 methods (PT, MT, ET and UT)
  • Must have experience working knowledge of EASA Part 145
  • High level of interpersonal skill to co-ordinate a number of activities and the ability to communicate, influence and direct decision-making.
