PURPOSE OF JOB:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Mechancial Technician to join the Test & Commissioning (T&C) Hull & Deck team on a permanent full-time basis. As part of the T&C team and reporting to the Hull & Deck Lead, you’ll play a key role in conducting Set to Work (STW) activities, testing, commissioning, maintaining and ensuring the operation of the Hunter Class Frigate (HCF) ships systems. You’ll work with mission-critical hull and deck systems, including but not limited to moorings, hydraulics, anchors, escape systems, cranes and helicopter landing equipment. Based at our Osborne Shipyard in Adelaide, we offer flexible work options, including hybrid arrangements and a 9-day fortnight to help you balance work and life.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct STW, testing, commissioning and maintenance of the hull and deck systems.
- Train and qualify as an Authorised Individual to operate and maintain HCF systems.
- Bring your technical expertise to the team—share knowledge, drive best practices, and foster continuous improvement.
- Plan, check, and carry out mechanical isolations of ship equipment and systems.
- Complete test, maintenance, and STW documentation using relevant digital tools.
- Work closely with the HCF T&C Lead Technician to execute the T&C program.
- Assist in training and upskilling staff, ensuring critical skills are shared across the team.
- Ensure all work meets WHS legislation and BAE Systems SHE policies.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Operations, and Support Systems teams to deliver safe, effective solutions.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
- 5 years minumum experience in commissioning mechanical hydraulic equipment.
- Cert III in Engineering (Mechancial) minimum or a relevant engineering qualification with T&C experience.
- Hands-on experience in testing, commissioning, and verification of systems.
- Hold a relevant qualification that’s industry recognised.
- Strong problem-solving and teamwork skills to tackle technical challenges across functions.
- Skilled in planning and coordination to keep tasks on track.
- Experienced in computer-based commissioning documentation, risk assessments, and work instructions.
- Professional, technically sharp, and capable of working independently.
