Role Description:
An exciting opportunity for a Mechanical/Structural Engineer to join the Hunter Class Frigate Program based in Osborne, SA – please note this role requires onsite presence. Reporting to the Production Engineering Team Lead working under the Production Engineering Support Manager.
This role will see you utilize and develop your engineering skills as you will be responsible for providing engineering advice to enable production and trades within your domain.
We are looking at either degree qualified engineers or those with a diploma qualification to fulfil the requirements of the roles. Experience in one or more of the following domains will be highly desirable:
- Auxiliary Systems including piping and HVAC
- Shipboard outfitting, equipment and machinery
- Marine materials including coatings and welding
- Fabrication/assembly and/or repair of ship primary hull structures
Core Duties:
- Review reported issues and conduct technical investigations, including root cause analysis and engineering assessments within your area of expertise
- Liaise with stakeholders and subject matter experts to gather insights on affected systems and equipment, supporting informed decision-making
- Deliver engineering analysis and recommendations to the Technical Authority to ensure the as-built product aligns with design intent
- Act as a key communication link between Production and the broader business, supporting effective issue management processes
Essential Skills:
- Engineering degree or diploma qualification appropriate to the level of the role sought
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to focus on specific tasks and issues while effectively managing competing priorities
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to liaise with a diverse range of stakeholders and ask insightful questions to gather relevant information for informed decision-making
- Proven ability to interpret CAD models, detailed design drawings, and technical documentation, including requirements, fabrication or assembly drawings, and Objective Quality Evidence (OQE)
- Capability to apply established standards and engineering first principles to resolve complex engineering problems within area of expertise
- Adaptability and flexibility to respond effectively to changing demands, priorities, and tasks
- Holds, or is eligible to obtain, a Baseline Defence security clearance
The Hunter Class Frigate Team
The Hunter Class Frigate Program is comprised of various teams all with the same goal – to build the 6 new Frigates for the Royal Australian Navy. The Production Engineering Support team are part of the broader program working to deliver production engineering outcomes
