Role Description:
The role of the Mechanical Engineer within the HCFP is to provide integration of HVAC designs into the program. You will be reviewing designs provided by the contractor to assess how the specific designs can be input into the ship. This role will require you to have a broad understanding of the whole ship’s functionality. It is beneficial to have maritime or shipbuilding knowledge to understand how the integration will work.
As the suppliers are mainly European based, this role does require some work across various time zones, therefore this will require an evening meeting twice per week.
Core Duties:
- Apply experience to design & develop solutions, resolve engineering issues and problems for a range of products and engineering situations
- Undertake the integration and validation of various designs including contributing to the integration and validation plans and reports
- Ensure all documents and artefacts generated are completed and managed in accordance with appropriate standard procedures and work instructions, including compliance with required product change management and quality control processes
- Liaise with both internal and external stakeholders as required ensuring that their requirements are adequately supported and that their needs are fully considered and incorporated where appropriate and agreed
Essential Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Naval Architecture or Aeronautical Engineering – ideally with membership for Engineers Australia
- Experience in a maritime/marine defence environment would be highly advantageous
- Excellent communication skills; both written and verbal
- The ability to manage various tasks and changes in accordance with the program outcomes
- Defence security clearance or eligibility to obtain
- Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic In Arms (ITAR) regulations
The Hunter Class Frigate Team
The Hunter Class Frigate Program is transforming Australia’s shipbuilding industry by supporting the building of a world-class, continuous naval shipbuilding capability for our nation.
In 2018, the Australian Government selected our business to deliver these anti-submarine warfare (ASW) frigates for the Royal Australian Navy.
The program will create and sustain more than 5,000 jobs at BAE Systems Australia and the wider Australian defence supply chain over the life of the program, including up to 1,000 apprentice and graduate roles.
