Job title: Materials Engineer – Metallics

Location: Samlesbury – on-site

Salary: £41,361 + depending on skills and experience

 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Deliver on F35, Typhoon and Future aircraft Metallic production activities on additive manufactured and metallic structures, working with the Materials Engineering Lead Engineer and SMEs to ensure the delivery to contract
  • Operate automated and semi automated polishing machines, from sampled materials and be able to produce technical reports in accordance with BAE Systems specifications to be supplied to customers 
  • Review and sentence SPFDB (Super Plastic Forming Diffusion Bonded) parts in line with project demands. 
  • Support The Team Leader and SME’s to improve quality including updating and controlling of metallics documentation
  • Responsible for your own time management and deliverables set by the team leader to meet project demands
  • Contribute towards the input of Metallics Audits – NATCAP (Internal and External) to support compliance and safe working
  • Work collectively as part of the Metallics team to deliver on output targets

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

  • Proven experience in metallic materials manufacturing processes.
  • Good knowledge of Materials Science, preferably aligned to metallic materials and their processing into components
  • An awareness of the importance of operational governance in achieving product integrity
  • Experience in working to defined standards and processes
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office applications, particularly MS Word and MS Excel

Desirables

  • A degree or HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in STEM related subject e.g. Materials Science, Metallurgy, Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical Engineering
  • Knowledge of several aspects of airframe engineering, design engineering, manufacturing, quality, and test engineering
  • Chartered Status or willingness to achieve it

The Material Engineering Metallics Team:

Join our dynamic Metallics team at BAE Systems, where you’ll play a crucial role in delivering on high-profile projects such as the F35, Typhoon, and future aircraft. As a key player in our team, you’ll work alongside the Materials Engineering Lead Engineer and subject matter experts to ensure the delivery of additive manufactured and metallic structures. You’ll manage your own deliverables to meet project timelines, and contribute to NADCAP audits to ensure compliance and safety.
