 Job Purpose:

The post holder is responsible for actively supporting the delivery of Naval Technical Training (NTT) in the Seamanship field at the Marina Training Facility, a satellite of the Technical Institute of Naval Studies (TINS). This includes classroom and/or seamanship laboratory/workshop requirements pertinent to the smooth operation of the Marina Training Facility and supporting infrastructure.

Responsibilities

 The post holder is responsible for:

·       assisting Senior Boat Instructors (SBIs) and Boat Instructor’s (BI’s) in preparing for specialist practical training,

·       assisting the Marina Training Facility (MTF) Operations Co-coordinator (Ops-coordinator) in general daily routines and tasks,

·       ensuring all tasks given are carried out with full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) measures adhered to,

·       Ensure all Health & Safety legislation/documentation is followed to prevent accidents/incidents,

·       ensuring all classroom, laboratory and workshop practical demonstrations and exercises are set up prior to the commencement of lessons,

·       carry out daily ‘after use’ checks on all small boats, reporting any anomalies to the SBIs/BI’s, to include but not limited to; fenders secured, boat lines correct, fuel levels checked,

·       Assist in maintaining equipment in assigned areas,

·       when required, assist in Water Safety Equipment (WSE) maintenance,

·       ensuring support and supervision of cadets is provided during assessments and evaluation exercises,

·       liaising with the MTF Instructors on best practice to support the planned delivery of lessons,

·       assist and act as a safety swimmer during Sea Sense and Sea Survival training,

In addition to the above, the post holder will be well motivated, adaptable and flexible to be able to operate in a complex technical environment, where the integration of a wide range of technical skills is necessary to ensure the prime objectives of NTT are met, with minimum supervision.

The post holder will be expected to operate to a standard of absolute integrity and professionalism.

The post holder will ensure the completion of any other reasonable request by their line manager, which aligns with Company business.

Job Requirements:

Essential

The post holder must:

·       Must have evidence of a Maritime, Nautical or seafaring background/experience

·       have a single pillar assessed English Language ability to IELTS 4.0 in speaking, and a minimum of IELTS 3.0 in reading and writing, achieved within the last 2 years, and

·       have a minimum of 1 years employment

·       Valid driving licence.

Desirable

The post holder should:

·       have some knowledge of Seamanship, whether military or civilian.

·       have some knowledge of small boats/RIBs.
