Job Description

Job Title: Head of Sustainability

Location: Glascoed ideally but options for other contractual locations available as some business travel necessary.  

Salary: Up to £70,000 depending on experience plus executive benefits

Are you an experienced, inspirational leader with a track record of delivery, advanced influencing skills and have a deep knowledge of sustainability best practice and processes, if so, this is a fantastic opportunity for you?

 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Developing and implementing the Land Sustainability strategy, including the roadmap to achievement across the areas of Net Zero operations and value chain, sustainable products and increased social value
  • Monitoring and driving the processes and outputs in the business, ensuring we meet and exceed sustainability goals
  • Assuming the role of chair, creating a Land Sustainability Working Group, complete with terms of reference through which to monitor and drive the strategy
  • Liaising and coordinating with wider M&L Sector and Group Sustainability & Social Value initiatives and ensure Lands’ plans and activities align with Group objectives/plans
  • Be the Land subject matter expert on Sustainability, providing thought leadership, advice and recommendations to inform business strategy and decision-making
  • Maintaining a clear understanding of all relevant current and upcoming legislation and regulation
  • Supporting the development of Sustainability and Social Value material and deliverables in support of UK bids and campaigns, working with industrial partners and suppliers as necessary
  • Developing and maintaining Sustainability and Social Value metrics and reporting for Land and Group/Sector ESG reporting requirements
  • Driving engagement, understanding and support for the Land Sustainability agenda

Your skills and experiences:

Essential skills:

  • Previous responsibility for Sustainability/ESG strategy and its execution
  • Genuine passion for environmental and sustainability matters with a strong desire to improve economic and social wellbeing in the communities we work in, and to maximise the company’s Social Value impact
  • Understands current and future issues, how they affect business and how to prepare the business for them
  • Strong experience in managing and working with partners to build trusted external relationships and to establish and grow value and gravitas with internal colleagues
  • Able to challenge internal stakeholders in a compelling way and work effectively, leading, influencing and driving delivery across dispersed, multi-functional teams in a politically complex environment
  • Track record of delivery and PM discipline
  • Customer focussed – develops strong, trusted relationships, understands perspectives, invites feedback, looks for win-win solutions; ability to influence across customer community

Desirable skills:

  • Degree in relevant business area, or equivalent qualifications and experience
  • Membership of an accredited professional body

As the Head of Sustainability, you will lead on the Sustainability agenda for Land, providing the thought leadership to shape the development and implementation of Land’s strategy and underpinning route map across all the facets of sustainability – Net Zero Operations, Sustainable Products, Embedded Sustainability Culture, New Zero Value chain.
