Job Title: Future Radar Antenna Design Authority

Location: Cowes

Salary: Circa £80,000 depending on skills and experience plus bonus scheme

Put yourself into a dynamic Radar development role at the forefront of real world demands in the defence industry. You will be developing cutting edge next generation radar products to counter emerging threats and gain an advantage in the strategic Future Air Dominance domain. Your new day-to-day will be exciting and diverse by applying your expertise in Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) Antenna and Systems Engineering to develop future systems to be used by those who serve and protect us.

 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Demonstrating detailed and comprehensive understanding of concepts and principles relating to Systems Engineering and Radar antenna design
  • Leading the decomposition and management of requirements within Antenna sub-system scope aligned to stakeholder needs – DOORS Next experience advantageous
  • Responsibility for developing end-to-end performance modelling of Transmit/Receive processing
  • Modelling Antenna and Radar system performance, including performance budget definition for aperture errors, time delay behaviour, and adaptive beamforming
  • Responsibility for modelling the Clutter Attenuation/Improvement factor and related performance budget
  • Leading design decomposition and architectural definition within Antenna sub‑system scope
  • Managing development of sub-systems within Antenna scope to agreed performance metrics (size, weight, power, cost, test time, etc).
  • Developing antenna array calibration solutions, including associated processing algorithms and error budgets
  • Defining and articulating acceptance strategies at each appropriate level of Antenna sub-system design, ensuring suitability for relevant stakeholders
  • Applying and championing the Systems Engineering principles of ISO 15288 to the design of complex Radar systems through the entire engineering lifecycle
  • Liaising closely with the Future Radar System Design Authority and other stakeholders to ensure that the Antenna can operate successfully as an essential part of Future Radar system designs

Your skills and experiences:

  • Strong understanding of some of the following subject areas; Active Electronically Scanned Array Antenna (AESA); wideband signal generation; element-level signal digitisation; antenna aperture characteristics; adaptive beamforming, clutter attenuation
  • Good understanding of factors that can affect the real-world performance of Radar systems and how these can impact accuracy and sensing performance to meet challenging design objectives and requirements
  • Comprehensive understanding and experience of concepts and principles relating to Systems Engineering (e.g. ISO 15288) and Radar antenna design
  • Experience of leading large scale complex system designs
  • Experience of requirements management in a contemporary toolset such as IBM DOORS Next

The Radar Systems Engineering team:

The role will have responsibility for developing a state-of-the-art Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) Antenna, comprising both wideband signal generation and signal digitisation at element-level in a scalable design. Subsequent responsibility will drive evolution of AESA Antenna design variants for multiple Radar applications with minimal modification to the core product design.

We are looking for a highly experienced professional engineer with a depth and breadth of knowledge in Systems Engineering and Radar technology.

Our workplace in Cowes is an easily accessible commute from Southampton with a regular foot passenger ferry and BAE shuttle service from the ferry terminal to site.

This could include accruing hours as well as flexibility around start and finish times, ensuring you can balance life at work, on site and life at home., however, because of the importance and security classification of the projects you will be involved in, there will be a regular requirement for you to work on site so you can collaborate closely with the rest of your team.
