Location: Portsmouth, Broad Oak, hybrid role. Candidates may be based in Scotland, Wales or the Midlands, with frequent paid travel to Portsmouth.
Salary: Circa £45,000 (Depending on skill and experience)

What you’ll be doing:
This role offers the opportunity to deliver hands‑on engineering field support for the Royal Navy’s submarine fleet, both in the UK and overseas. Working as part of the Submarine Support Team, you will travel to internal and external customer sites, providing specialist support independently and collaboratively. You’ll apply broad, multi‑discipline expertise across Mechanical, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, ensuring that systems remain safe, reliable and fully operational in demanding environments.
You’ll take ownership of key engineering governance activities, including raising risk assessments, developing method statements and generating detailed technical reports that capture the outcomes of all work undertaken. As Part of the Project Team’s dedicated Field Service Team, you’ll play a critical role in maintaining compliance with legislation and company policy while contributing directly to the successful delivery of the Submarine Support Programme.
Core duties:
- You will need to meet contractual medical requirements to be able to undertake and successfully complete: Submarine Escape, Rescue Abandonment and Survival (SMERAS) Training
- You will hold Higher National Certificate (or equivalent) level qualification in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, & a Full UK Driving licence
- You’ll have broad Engineering knowledge – Mechanical & Electronics/Electrical
- You must have knowledge of Health & Safety processes
- You will have experience of fault-finding, repair and commissioning of complex mechanical and electronic systems, ideally with knowledge of Field Services
The Submarine Support Motion Control Team:
As a Submarine Support Field Services Engineer, you will be part of a small, dedicated, specialist engineering team providing field support to the Royal Navy’s subsurface fleet. The project base is at our Broad Oak site in Portsmouth. The role is a mobile position requiring extensive travel within the UK (Occasional Overseas), often at short notice. The role entails deployments to Royal Navy Submarine platforms and subsequent report generation, as well as attending learning opportunities and providing test and calibration support at our Portsmouth facility.
