The Typhoon EW Mission Data (MD) Specialist is responsible for
providing in-country support and advice to QEAF EW Officers’ in the production
of Typhoon EW MD and development of the QEAF Typhoon EW MD Capability.

 

This specialist will provide day-to-day
support to the QEAF in aspects of the MD Lifecycle from establishing
requirements to design, building and testing of EW MD and post flight analysis
of MD.

 

This role requires an understanding and
working knowledge in the use of a number of toolsets such as the Integrated
Generation System (IGS) and Desktop Validation Tool (DVT) to generate DASS
(Defensive Aids Sub System) and Attack Compter MD.

  

This position is part of a team who will cover
all aspects of MD Lifecycle, therefore providing expertise across the toolset
range as a whole. The post will be established in Qatar after a period of UK
based training.   
 

 

Key aspects:

  • Advising on the details of developing Typhoon EW MD
    requirements and specifications.
  • Acting as a MD SME in the use of IGS, DVT, OMDET and
    PFA toolsets, providing direct support to QEAF EW Officers’ to meet their operational
    requirements.
  • Providing support and advice on the issues support of
    developing EW MD for Typhoon and how these can be managed in an operationaly
    focused environment.
  • Supporting and providing advice on suitable approaches
    to EW MD design, build and testing; both SWIL and HWIL testing.
  • Supporting in-country training/development activities to enable
    continuous development of QEAF EW Officer capabilities with the toolsets and
    processes provided to them.

Core Activity:
  • Understanding
    QEAF Typhoon EW MD needs to support the development of MD requirements.

  • Support the QEAF EW Officers’ in developing
    design specifications to meet the established requirements.

  • Support the QEAF EW Officers’ in the building and testing of ESCM, DAC and AC
    MD.

  • Provide support to emitter ESM data extraction and colourisation activities.
  • Support QEAF led HWIL Rig testing activities (UK Warton).
  • Support QEAF EW Officers’ in post flight analysis activities to identify and
    implement MD changes.

  • Provide support to the co-ordination with QEAF Typhoon front-line users to
    integrate key EW MD activities into operations.

  • Provide advice and support on the issues with Typhoon EW MD and how these can
    be managed.

  • Day-to-day ‘at elbow’ support to QEAF EWOs within the Typhoon EWC to meet QEAF
    EWC outputs, providing supervision where appropriate and highlighting any
    issues.

  • Provide support and mentorship to QEAF EW Officers on the use of EW MD toolsets
    and procedures to develop the QEAF capability.

  • As
    toolset SME, support the EW Advisor in answering detailed queries on EW MD
    toolsets and associated procedures.

  • Support the QEAF in deployed operations (trials and exercise) activities.
Key Accountabilities:
  • Ensuring EW MD activities are supported
    appropriately and helping to meet agreed MD delivery targets,
    reporting/escalating any issues as appropriate.

  • Ensure that all EW MD design, build,
    test and analysis activities are undertaken in accordance with the appropriate
    procedures and that they are correctly documented and records maintained on
    relevant systems.

  • Developing and complying with procedures
    and standards in the production, testing and delivery of Typhoon MD. Identifying
    and proposing changes as required to increase operational effectiveness in
    support of the QEAF EW MD Organisation aims.

  • Support the EW Advisor in providing
    advice and guidance for the introduction/upgrades of toolsets within the QEAF
    Typhoon EW Organisation. 
     
  • Ensure
    the awareness of all applicable contractual requirements and incorporate any
    changes into activities as appropriate.
  • May be
    expected to deputise for the EW Advisor in appropriate areas during normal
    periods of absence.


Requirements

Qualified and highly experienced
EW expert with experience within an operational EW environment that can be
gained through either:

 

  • A graduate of a recognized
    advanced EW warfare course within the UK Military environment

  • Minimum of 4 years EW or ELINT
    tours with the UK Armed Forces, the UK MSC or an industry role involved in the
    creation of MD and the MD lifecycle.

  • Must have 2 years’ experience
    in Typhoon EW systems.

 

The
role holder should demonstrate:

  • Detailed EW MD toolset knowledge and a comprehensive understanding of their
    integration into to EW lifecycle and associated relationships.

  • Understanding of Typhoon DASS and the equipment/capability interactions and
    dependencies regarding MD.

  • Good team leadership knowledge and skills.
  • Effective, credible communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Good ability to build strong relationships with Customers and key stakeholders.
  • Cultural awareness and understanding (country and customer).
