Role Description

The Electronics Technician will join the Combat Systems Integration – Integrated Product Team (CSI-IPT) Test and Commissioning (T&C) Team, reporting to the CSI-IPT Combat Systems Lead. They will be responsible for providing specialist technical support for the operation, maintenance, configuration and testing of Hobart Class Destroyer combat systems and equipment.

Core Duties

  • Contribute directly to combat system readiness including Undersea Warfare (USW) and Electronics Warfare (EW) Systems
  • Ensure systems are available, correctly configured, and capable of supporting commissioning, trials, defect resolution and operational activities.
  • Apply technical knowledge and diagnostic skills to identify, investigate, and resolve equipment and system issues.
  • Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance activities on complex integrated combat systems.
  • Interpret technical drawings, specifications, maintenance manuals, and test procedures to support maintenance and operational outcomes.
  • Diagnose faults, determine root causes, and implement practical solutions to maintain system performance and reliability.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to troubleshooting, maintenance, and technical support activities.

Essential

  • Cert III or above in Electronics Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Fault finding and troubleshooting of electronic equipment.
  • Experience adhering to permits and safety procedures.
  • Current Defence NV1 security clearance or eligibility to obtain.
  • Current NSSIC and DCAC or eligibility to obtain.
  • Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic in Arms (ITAR) regulations.

The CSI-IPT Team

Formed by the Commonwealth of Australia through Defence, BAE Systems Australia, Saab Australia, and Lockheed Martin Australia, the CSI-IPT team is leading key capability upgrades on the first of the Royal Australian Navy’s three Hobart Class destroyers. This includes enhancing the Aegis Combat System, introducing Saab’s Australian Interface (AI), and integrating the Tomahawk Weapon System.
