Job title: Designer
Location: Barrow-in-Furness – Onsite
Salary: £36,537
What you’ll be doing:
- This role will provide you with the opportunity to bring your operations experience into our Design office and progress within the Design Engineering Function to join ether the Mechanical, Electrical or Hull & Outfit teams
- Using your operations expertise to improve design you will have the opportunity to take responsibility for producing 3D models of systems and equipment integration with use of the CAD tool
- You will also produce 2D drawing outputs to a fast-paced schedule, supporting the Manufacturing and Production teams with product build and delivery
- Be proactive and bring operations experience into the design office to help design of the Submarine
- Communicate with both internal and external Stakeholder while maintaining excellent working relationships with interfacing teams and team members
Your skills and experiences:
- We would like you to have experience within the Engineering industry
- A Trade background, such as; Electrician, Steelworker / Fabricator, Pipe Fitter, Sheet Metal worker, Coppersmith, Fitter and Shipwright etc.
- Have an awareness of relevant business standards including Engineering
- Hold a desire to become involved with the Design side of Engineering

The Designer Teams:
The Designer teams are organised in focused specialised teams, as a Designer you will report to a Project Leader. The other Designers on your team will consist of Designers of various abilities and capabilities, all of which doing similar work to yourself. These teams include, but are not limited to, Seating, Structures, Compartment Integration and Routed Systems e.g. pipes and cables. You will be able to utilise your operations experience where you will be able to share your knowledge and experience to bring improvements to the design of our products. This is a role where you will be surrounded by colleagues who will be on hand to support you and provide coaching / advice.
