Job Title: Design Engineers – Structures & Outfit External

Location: Portsmouth – We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role

Salary: up to £42000depending on skills and experience

What you’ll be doing:

  • Design Structural and Outfit arrangements using both 2D and 3D CAD packages
  • Preparation of Production manufacturing and installation packages in line with specifications and all quality and technical standards.
  • Liaising with Production to resolve onsite Design Queries
  • Conducting ship visits to validate the current configuration of the structure, material state and layout
  • Keeping up to date in relevant technical areas to develop your skills and capabilities
  • Working with our customers to help develop their design requirements
  • Supporting apprentices and junior engineers in their development

Your skills and experiences:

  • HNC or equivalent in a STEM discipline, or relevant time-served experience
  • Design tools experience (AutoCad, Inventor, Foran)
  • Experience in Structures and/or Outfit design
  • Ideally experience with ship repair or experience within the marine industry
  • Requires detailed and comprehensive understanding of design concepts and principles relating to the relevant engineering discipline. Has significant experience and able to apply knowledge to a wide range of design issues.
  • Has knowledge and understanding within own discipline and is able to discuss and understand context and implication of technical issues across a limited number of other engineering disciplines pertinent to Ship Engineering.

The Structure and Outfit team:

The Design Services, Structures & Outfit is an exciting & dynamic workplace with a broad range of experience from Apprentices to Principal Engineers, with approx. 50x engineers in total. We take pride within the team to encourage and fully support development and career progression of our engineers. Our team delivers design solutions across the entire lifecycle from new builds such as Type 26 Frigates to in-service platforms such as Type 45 Destroyers, QE Aircraft Carrier, and Type 23 Frigates.

This could include accruing hours as well as flexibility around start and finish times, ensuring you can balance life at work, on site and life at home.
