What you will be doing
As a ‘Project Management Degree Apprentice – Quality’, we will support you to balance your academic studies whilst gaining practical work experience; enabling you to link theory to common practice and essentially gain a degree in Project Management.
This extensive five-year degree apprenticeship programme will help you to build a strong foundation for your career and upon completion of the scheme, you will transition into a position in either the Quality Assurance or Quality Engineering team.
Quality is integral to the design, manufacturing and commissioning of the Submarines, which protect our nation and our way of life.
The Quality function uses its ability to investigate, assure, analyse, problem solve and engage with teams right across the business to ensure that our products are delivered to the right specifications, and that our processes deliver the expected outcomes. As a Function, we are continually improving our ways of working to adapt to an ever-changing environment.
The Quality Function is responsible for business and programme Quality Assurance, Supplier Quality Assurance, Quality Records, Quality Control, Quality Improvement, Quality Strategy & Capability; you will have the opportunity to spend time with each department to understand what they do and why they do it.
As a ‘Project Management Degree Apprentice – Quality’, you will work closely with all areas of the business, across a broad spectrum of tasks. These could range from dealing with senior stakeholders working directly on the product, to liaising with suppliers and improving Quality across the business.
What Does The Apprenticeship Involve?
Whilst you study for your degree, you will get to immerse yourself in a variety of placements across the business. Each with something different to offer, giving you the opportunity to explore both office and shop floor environments and helping you to gain the competencies you need to become an effective Quality Engineer.
You will learn from the most skilled subject matter experts in the business and receive support from the network of stakeholders that you build throughout your five-year degree apprenticeship.
In support of your degree apprenticeship, you will get to experience placements across the business, including quality, project management, project controls, operations and engineering. All of these will give you a breadth of experience and understanding of the business as a whole, and the importance of the quality function.

Overview of business unit
Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century.
The Astute class will equip the Royal Navy with its largest and most capable generation of attack submarines. We are responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of these state-of-the-art vessels. In total, seven boats will make up the fleet, each weighing a mighty 7,400 tonnes.
Dreadnought is the successor to the Vanguard class of nuclear deterrent submarines. We will deliver four submarines to the Royal Navy, with the first submarine entering service in the early 2030s. Dreadnought is widely considered to be one of the world’s most complex engineering challenges.
