About the OPPORTUNITY
We have an exciting opportunity for a Combat Systems Engineering Manager to join our Maritime Sustainment program based at Garden Island – NSW reporting to the Project Engineering Manager. We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight.
You will be responsible for delivering the Combat Systems engineering outputs of the project within the triple constraints of quality, cost and schedule (henceforth referred to as Integrated Project Performance). In doing this, the Combat Systems Engineering Manager is responsible for ensuring the engineering outputs are developed in accordance with the approved company processes and meet the agreed operational needs of the customer.
Key responsibilities include:
Engineering Design Acceptance Authority
- Act as the point of contact with the customers to understand the customer requirements
- Act as the lead for the Combat Systems Portfolio reporting into the Project Engineering manager (PEM)
Engineering Planning and Control
- Undertake detailed planning and estimating to establish (or review and re-establish the artefacts within each phase of the Engineering Change process and staffing profile.
- Control and manage the technical baseline in accordance with the CoA toolsets Configuration Management process and via the participation in the Engineering Review board and Configuration Control Board.
- Identification and provision of project specific training required for Combat System engineering personnel.
Process Management and Life Cycle Management:
- Ensure that the defined CoA engineering lifecycle and processes employed within the programme /
- Support Design Reviews and Technical Bid Reviews.
Engineering Management:
- Technical management of sub-contractors and suppliers to ensure deliveries are consistent with the Project Schedule and satisfy the overall technical solution.
- Develop and implement training plans for all Combat Systems engineering staff and provide coaching & mentoring as required for staff.
Product Integrity and Safety:
- Responsible for ensuring that product integrity is maintained and that a high level of engineering performance is achieved, by ensuring that sound engineering principles are being adhered to.
- The development of a safety culture, which promotes continuous improvement of product safety and environmental protection.
- Reporting, investigating and rectifying any product safety issues that arise within the programme / project.
- Responsible for continuous process improvement by recommending improvements to the common and/or sector processes in accordance with LCM.ENG.11.PR Preview and Lessons Learnt process.
About YOU
- Previous experience in Naval Services as a Weapons Electrical Officer or experience with a contractor providing support to weapons systems on ships is considered advantageous
- Proven experience as a people leader of a mid-sized team is essential
- Tertiary qualification in Systems Engineering or similar field is considered essential
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) accreditation or ability to attain accreditation is considered desirable
- Defence security clearance or eligibility to obtain a NV1
- Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic In Arms (ITAR) regulations
