What you will be doing

The Information Communications Technician Advanced Apprenticeship is a two year scheme that will provide you with the knowledge and skills that are required for our Service Delivery teams. 
Through a rotation of placements, you will have an opportunity to learn about how our Service Delivery Teams provide a high quality IT service to all business users whilst putting that learning into practice. Our teams respond to user incidents, service user requests, deliver user training, support software upgrades and engage with IT partners and vendors. 
To support your learning and development and to compliment your studies, you will work with our experienced teams who will mentor and coach you whilst working on real life tasks and projects, providing you with shadowing and learning opportunities on the job.

The role holder will:

•    Provide technical support to customers through a range of communication channels
•    Establish and diagnose problems/faults using the required troubleshooting methodology and tools
•    Interpret technical specifications relevant to the task
•    Apply the appropriate security policies to tasks in line with organisational requirements
•    Undertake the relevant processes with the relevant tools and technologies to resolve technical issues
•    Communicate with all levels of stakeholders, talking them through steps to take to resolve issues or set up systems, keeping them informed of progress and managing escalation and expectations
•    Apply appropriate testing methodologies to hardware or software or cabling assets
•    Practice guided continuous self-learning to keep up to date with technological developments to enhance relevant skills and take responsibility for own professional development
•    Document or escalate tasks as appropriate to ensure a clear audit trail and progression of issues
•    Install and configure relevant software and hardware as appropriate
•    Address IT issues by prioritising in response to customer service level agreements
•    Administer security access requirements and permissions for stakeholders escalating as necessary for example password resets
•    Support the roll out of upgrades or new systems or applications

Alongside on the job experience, you will gain a Level 3 qualification. You will be supported and nurtured to give you the capacity to make the role your own, and seize the endless opportunities for business, personal and professional growth.

Overview of business unit

Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century. The Astute class will equip the Royal Navy with its largest and most capable generation of attack submarines. We are responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of these state-of-the-art vessels. In total, seven boats will make up the fleet, each weighing a mighty 7,400 tonnes. Dreadnought is the successor to the Vanguard class of nuclear deterrent submarines. We will deliver four submarines to the Royal Navy, with the first submarine entering service in the early 2030s. Dreadnought is widely considered to be one of the world’s most complex engineering challenges.
