What you will be doing
The Cyber Security Advanced Apprenticeship is a 2 year scheme that will increase your cyber security knowledge whilst providing exposure to the security roles within our Information Management & Technology Function. Through a rotation of placements, you will also have the opportunity to learn about other areas of IM&T and the business, putting our security requirements into context. To support your learning and development and to compliment your studies, you will work with our experienced teams who will mentor and coach you whilst working on real life tasks and projects, providing you with shadowing and learning opportunities on the job.
Within the Submarines business, we have three IM&T Security Teams;
• Cyber Security Architecture & Services
• Information Security
• Supplier Security Assurance
A lot of the work that these teams undertake involves supporting incident and vulnerability management, security breach investigation, strengthening and enhancing how we protect our information and IT infrastructure, increasing security awareness and ensuring that internal and external colleagues comply with our policies and our security requirements.
The role holder:
• Gains an insight into the development, definition, management and delivery of Cyber Incident Response – including documentation and testing.
• Develops an understanding of the security architecture across all IT infrastructure, networks, systems and applications – both in projects and ad-hoc.
• Fully understands the importance of Information Security and applies this to their own work and operations within the organisation
• Communicates security risks and issues to business managers and others and then applies and maintains specific security controls as required by organisational policy and local risk assessments.
• Supporting incident/ issue and vulnerability management.
• Supports the Investigation of minor security breaches in accordance with established procedures.
• Assists users in defining their access rights and privileges.
• Performs non-standard security administration tasks and resolves security administration issues.
• Provides advice and guidance to business stakeholders on security best practice and application of Security policies and processes in order to ensure compliance and/or risk management facilitating delivery of business objectives in line with contractual obligations and corporate standards.
• Gathers data, analyses and prepares reports or presentations to feed information back to teams/managers.
• Conducts and supports security risk assessments and facilitates remedial activities to improve security performance.
Alongside on the job experience, you will gain a Level 3 qualification. You will be supported and nurtured to give you the capacity to make the role your own, and seize the endless opportunities for business, personal and professional growth.
Overview of business unit
Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century. The Astute class will equip the Royal Navy with its largest and most capable generation of attack submarines. We are responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of these state-of-the-art vessels. In total, seven boats will make up the fleet, each weighing a mighty 7,400 tonnes.
Dreadnought is the successor to the Vanguard class of nuclear deterrent submarines. We will deliver four submarines to the Royal Navy, with the first submarine entering service in the early 2030s. Dreadnought is widely considered to be one of the world’s most complex engineering challenges.
