What you will be doing

BAE Systems Land UK design and manufacture a wide range of munitions products.  It is essential that our products are high quality and totally conform to the customer’s requirements.

As a Trials Technician Apprentice, you will be involved/trained to operate various data capture equipment used in the Test and Evaluation Industry.

This role is wide-ranging and has both practical and theoretical elements.  You will spend time with experienced personnel in all key departments to gain the required knowledge of all aspects of Test and Evaluation techniques.

We will help you develop into a Trials Technician that delivers safe, capable processes for optimised Test and Evaluation disciplines to specified standards, initially under supervision of competent personnel, then as a stand-alone Trials Technician under a continuous monitoring programme.

Main responsibilities and duties could include but not be limited to:

• Working closely within a Test and Evaluation Trials Team in a variety of outdoor locations in the UK.
• Delivery of Trials Engineering tasks.
• Gaining knowledge and experience in the development and implementation of new trials techniques.
• Taking the opportunity to assist in Continuous Improvement projects.
• Assisting in the maintenance and repair of equipment in our Test and Evaluation facility.
• Using computer software to enable data capture through appropriate hardware.
• Executing and reporting results from Test and Evaluation trials.
• Ensuring there is a detailed Safe System of Work in place for the new techniques you develop.
• Gaining knowledge and experience from supporting the Trials and Engineering Teams in resolving any issues that may arise.
• Assisting with the movements of stores around site using a forklift truck.

4 National 5s Grade C or above (or equivalent) including Maths, English, Science or Technical plus three Highers at Grade C or above in English, Maths and Science or Technical (or equivalent) excluding Application of Maths.
