Role Description:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Radio Frequency (RF) Engineer to join our JORN program.

The RF Engineer will work within the Antenna IPT team and will be responsible for the design and development of RF systems and/ or equipment in accordance with contractual and Company requirements to achieve the required RF performance.

Core Duties:

  • Derive, analyse, document and manage RF system/ equipment requirements
  • Develop simple RF system/ equipment architectural designs to meet established set of requirements that address manufacturing, maintenance and support lifecycle
  • Undertake functional and circuit analysis to determine strengths and weaknesses of candidate RF system/ equipment solutions
  • Undertake the integration and validation of the RF system/ equipment design including contributing to the integration and validation plans and reports
  • Work within a cross functional engineering team
  • Assemble and test prototype hardware and test support systems
  • Make engineering decisions within own sphere of responsibility and delegated authority
  • Take responsibility for contributing to team planning, risk management, product safety, quality and Safety, Health & Environment (SHE)

Essential Skills:

  • Degree level qualifications in an Engineering discipline or similar
  • Demonstrated experience within the RF engineering discipline
  • Experience developing simple RF equipment designs, participating in design reviews, undertaking typical design analyses and implementing electrical solutions, its integration, validation and qualification testing
  • Experience with modelling tools such as Altair Feko, Ansys HFSS
  • Proficient in test and measurement of RF devices with vector network analysers and other standard test equipment
  • Be able to travel to between BAE Systems’ locations and undertake site works as needed
  • Defence security clearance or eligibility to obtain
  • Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic In Arms (ITAR) regulations

The JORN Team

The Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN) is a connected series of three remote over-the-horizon radars (OTHR) located in Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia. The state-of-the-art defence system provides wide-area surveillance at ranges of 1,000 to 3,000 kilometres and plays a vital role in supporting the Australian Defence Force’s (ADF) air and maritime operations, border protection, disaster relief and rescue operations.
