The role of EW OpInt is to be the primary interface with RSAF Command and front-line operations and combat aircrew to understand, agree and ensure timely response to their MD needs. Whilst addressing the MD needs, they are responsible for the full end-to-end MD production activity, along with both the generation and briefing the front-line with the MD material. Furthermore, they will be the focus for ensuring that Typhoon Post-Flight Analysis (PFA) information is disseminated to the appropriate EWC sections for analysis.
This element of the EW Operations section will also be the primary interface to the Intelligence Directorate, where they will be the EWC interface for the collection and validation of operational intelligence (Operational Electronic Intelligence (OpELINT), ELINT and Typhoon PFA).
The key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
• Develop and maintain the EWC Typhoon, e.g. Concept of Operations (CONOPs) and Concept of Use (CONUSE)
• Interface with Intelligence Directorate for new ELINT Collection tasking to support MD Operational Requirements
• Specify and prioritise operationally relevant threat engagement scenarios
• Liaise with the RSAF MD tasking agency and front-line users to understand and agree Training, Exercise and Operational MD requirements e.g. content, priority, rules of engagement, tactics and schedule:
• Identify the intended use for MD and mission accomplishment
• Generate EOB
• Generate Theatre Environment Requirement
• Provide the MDS scenario requirements for T&V
• Allocate tactics and CMs to identified threats
• Specify available Multifunctional Information Distribution System coverage, platforms and message contents
• Specify Identification Friend or Foe modes for theatre of operation
• Advise the TVACD Section on Typhoon aircraft performance characteristics and tactics
• Issue MDS:
1. MD configuration control, includes all associated documentation (EWC and Front-line)
2. Produce RSAF Typhoon front-line user MDS briefing material and supporting documentation including the Aircrew Briefing Guide (ABG), which may include the operational performance and tactical use of the MDS
3. Brief MDS content and anticipated performance the front-line users
4. Debrief MD performance problems with the front-line
5. Co-ordinate MDS feedback to other EWC Sections
6. Manage PFA activities (both internal and external to the EWC)
• Support the Test and Evaluation cell at Taif
• Trials and Exercises:
1. Plan and manage EWC support to trials
2. Process and manage the analysis of trial and exercise data
• Develop and maintain Ops section processes and procedures
• In addition, the post is to carry out any further functions requested by the RSAF
Job Requirements:
The OPINT – Capability Engineering will be required to meet the following criteria:
• Holder of a Bachelor of Engineering degree.
• High level of interpersonal skills to co-ordinate a large number of diverse activities and the ability to communicate, influence and direct the decision making process at all levels.
• Suitable experience in gaining the confidence of a wide spectrum of stakeholders.
• Experience of the development and application of engineering processes.
• Experience of Aerospace Systems and Support activities.
• Aeronautical and Defence Company / Industry knowledge (ideally 5 years minimum 3 years’ experience); involved in diverse engineering projects.
• Practical experience in the development and delivery of an engineering solution.
Essential:
• Recent experience of Air Operations either as a aircrew or recent experience of leading and managing the tasking, creation and verification of Mission Data, particularly Typhoon.
• Experience in Air Operations in an EW environment, preferably within the UK Air Warfare Centre
• Headquarters, Air & Space Warfare Centre).
• Developed technical awareness of EME/EW developments and the operational application of EWOS and Platform EW capabilities (current/emerging).
• Should have held a Command appointment equivalent to Squadron Leader or Wing Commander rank.
Desirable:
• Experienced in planning trials in an EW environment.
• Qualified Instructor (Air or Ground).
• Computer proficiency in Microsoft applications.
