Responsibilities

·         Using his knowledge and training gained as electronic warfare-experienced military 
aircrew, to liaise with and provide assistance to RSAF EWS Heads of Sections’ and 
RSAF EC Instructors. Objectives include guidance in all matters relating to the 
EWS, provision of counterpart EC Instructor training to RSAF EC Instructors, and 
enhancement of counterpart EC Instructor knowledge and experience in electronic 
warfare (EW).

·         Maintaining a suitable standard of knowledge of developments in the fields related 
to the post. Objectives include the instruction of RSAF and Contract Instructors on 
the information gained as a result of attending external courses, the amendment 
and updating of documentation to reflect changes in RSAF equipment, 
procurement, tactics and worldwide advances in EW theory. In addition, the post 
requires an up-to-date knowledge of regional assets and developments.

·         Individually, or as a member of a team, the preparation and presentation of lectures 
and practical exercises. Objectives include the production of classroom 
presentations and visual aids. Instruction of RSAF Aircrew, Operations, Air 
Defence and Intelligence branch students, and to visiting RSAF personnel. 
Preparation and presentation of lectures and practical exercises to audiences 
outside the EWS, as directed by the RSAF. In addition as a Course Development 
Team (COT) member, the EC Instructor will be involved in producing detailed 
exercise scenarios, which will be programmed into the AECS by the Software 
Specialist.

·         Research and preparation of courseware and practical exercises. The objectives 
include a requirement for the EC Instructor to work as a member of a COT in the 
preparation and writing of student notes, practice questions, presentations and 
examinations for all courses taught in the School. The production of Plans of 
Instruction (POls) and lesson plans in accordance with RSAF procedures.

·         Acting as a “Subject Matter Expert” in his field of experience. Objectives include 
advising other Instructors on the development of courseware, and CBT as required 
by the CBT section; this will involve providing assistance to the CBT Authors in the 
identification of those elements of courseware suitable for development of CBT 
lessons. Liaison with graphics staff for the production of visual aids for inclusion in 
course notes, and those graphics that are suitable for use in the production of CBT 
lessons. Identification of audio/visual course requirements for preparation by the 
AudioNisual Technician. Identification of those elements of courseware suitable for 
practical demonstrations for preparation by the Physics Laboratory 
Technician/Demonstrator. All of these duties will be carried out in accordance with 
RSAF approved EWS procedures.

·         Maintaining recognized quality control of documentation produced within the EWS. 
Objectives include working as a member of a Quality Assurance (QA) team to

·          provide advice to CDTs, on the level of material, content and method of 
 presentation, during the development of new courses.

·         Operation of the simulator and supervision of practical simulator exercises. 
Objectives include a requirement to develop, with the assistance of the AECS 
Software Specialist, knowledge of the AECS (EW Training System-Radar (EWTS- 
R) modes of operation; EW Evaluation System (EWES) modes of operation).

·         The assessment of student’s academic performance, during classroom instruction, 
exercises, CBT-based and AECS-based exercises, and project assignments. 
Acting as an individual student mentor and assessor of student course projects.

·         Teaching students while on detachment with the Mobile Training Team (MTT).

·         In addition to the above, the EC Instructor is responsible for any other tasks as 
defined by his RSAF Head of Section, the Head of BAe Staff/EW Adviser or the Snr 
Trg & Plan Coord.

Job Requirements:

·         Critical:

·         Electronic Combat Instructor will be a graduate of a military or civilian training establishment and will be qualified as an instructor. He will have a minimum of 5 years 1 relevant ex military or test/evaluation aircrew experience in Electronic Warfare with at least 3 years as an instructor together with knowledge and experience in course design. He must be highly experienced

·         in the practical application of one or more of the following roles: 

·         Signals Intelligence and database operation.

·         Procurement – operational requirements, trials and training.

·         Engineering – radar/electro-optics/EW.

·         Fighter controlling (GCI/AWACS).

·         Application of active jamming.

·         Suppression of enemy air defences.

·         EW ground/air training. 

·         Desirable:

·         Be experienced in the use of all the programs that run under Microsoft Office.

·         Professional 97 (Word, PowerPoint, Access and Excel).

·         Have attended the UK RAF General Duties Aerosystems Course.

·         Management experience.
